The Pony Escapes Being Burned at the Steak

Two weeks after The Pony's cooking faux pas that resulted in a severe burn on the top of his thumb... he try, tried again. A day off and a shopping trip at Walmart while he was hungry led to the purchase of two New York Strip steaks. He whipped up one of them for supper.

Looks like The Pony brought out the fine (paper) china, and his Pioneer Woman knife that used to be mine, which I gave him as an unofficial Pony-House-warming gift. He had some kind of pasta with cheese inside, whose name escapes me, and garlic knots as his sides. No greenery for The Pony!

Looks like The Pony didn't spare the butter! And he got a nice rare cook on his steak this time, not being distracted by the charred flesh of his thumb. Some days The Pony could polish off that meal in no time. But he sent me the pictures and said he was full! And asked if his steak would be okay until tomorrow, wrapped in foil.

I guess two days off in a row agreed with The Pony, and left him less ravenous. Oh, and he must have done a good job serving himself, because it looks like he left himself a tip.

  1. Great job on the steak, it looks delicious! That pasta is called tortellini and it looks great also. I'm kind of with him on the no greenery. I like vegetables if someone else cooks them but I rarely go to the trouble of cooking them for myself. A bag of salad mix with added cheese and bacon bits is about as far as I will go.

    1. Tortellini! That's it. The Pony told me, and I forgot. He's a big pasta fan, and I am not. He will eat a salad of lettuce, shredded cheddar or mozzarella, and maybe a couple sliced grape tomatoes, with ranch dressing. He would never make it for himself, though. He's even been known to eat a Caesar salad at a steakhouse.

  2. Garlic knots! I wondered what those things were. I'd love to be able to buy those here. I'll settle for garlic bread though. I'd cook that steak a bit browner on the outside, but the rareness looks about right for me. And I would definitely have greens. A side salad or some green beans.

    1. These garlic knots don't look as good as the ones we get in restaurants, but I'm sure The Pony enjoyed them!

The Pony's steak might have been browner, but it looks like he soaked off the sear with so much seasoned butter he plopped on top. The uneaten broccoli from his Chinese food is probably as close as he's getting to greens!
