"I had been planning to go anyway. Then I heard the contest, so I called. I was caller number three, and won two tickets!"
The Pony said this is not his kind of music. The Veteran said his wife already had plans for them on Saturday night. HOS (Hick's Oldest Son) did not respond to Hick's text. Hick took his extra ticket to his SUS2 (Storage Unit Store 2) on Saturday, but nobody wanted to go. So he said he'd take it along with him, and offer it to somebody outside for free. Hick is many things, but not a ticket scalper!
He got there an hour early, and sent me a picture of the stage.
Hick said the "special guest" noted on the ticket was Nashville singer/songwriter Max T. Barnes. I thought the name sounded familiar. Looking it up, I discovered that he wrote a Vern Gosdin song, "Way Down Deep." That will mean nothing to you if you have never listened to old country music. I happen to have the CD, Vern Gosdin 10 Years of Greatest Hits. Not that I'm braggin'...
Anyhoo... Hick had a grand time at his free concert. Probably more so than if he'd paid.
You won! I hope the concert was excellent.
ReplyDeleteHick won, and he enjoyed the concert.
DeleteCongratulations to Hick! It's always nice to get out for a little entertainment and it's good to hear that he had a wonderful time at the concert:)
ReplyDeleteI hope he didn't sing along! Hick has a good singing voice, but people didn't pay (or not!) $10 to hear HIM sing.
DeleteThat is a great win. Why didn't you go? Back in the 80s I won things on the radio all the time. A guy and I won so often they made a rule that a person could only win once a month. For about three years, I went to the movies once a month with a free ticket and took a friend who loved my winning. We never bought anything to eat or drink, just sneaked something in. So, once a month, I called in for an easy trivia win. I also won other things, too--tshirt, record, etc.
ReplyDeleteI don't like crowds, and sitting for more than a half hour makes my knees stiffen up and hurt. I don't like being a spectacle when I try to stand up and leave. I pretty much stay home, except for my daily trip to town, and the occasional casino visit.
DeleteHick doesn't have to know anything when he calls in to this radio station. He only has to be the right number caller. He probably hasn't been to a movie in 15 years.
If I want to go, I suppose I never think about being a spectacle trying to arise and walk. Shopping just demands an electric cart.
DeleteI was reminded that I won tickets to a movie for knowing the colors of the Olympic rings AFTER I was the right number caller. Luck and knowledge were required for everything I won on the radio program.
I don't let it keep me out of casinos! But there, I sit a little bit, then move to another slot machine. So it's not as bad as being trapped in a car or sitting in one position for a while.
DeleteGood thing Hick's wins don't depend on knowledge. Unless it's knowledge of machines or building skills!
He didn't offer the ticket to you? Even if he knows you wouldn't go, the polite thing to do is offer the ticket, just in case. I shall go to youtube and listen to that song.
ReplyDeleteHick did offer it to me first. "I know you probably won't want to go..." Which is fine. He's right. That's one thing I wouldn't hold against him, even if he didn't offer.
DeleteThat was lovely and he's nice looking too. I'll have to listen to more of his music.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the song. You have to appreciate the old country style of music, not the more "pop" style they pass off as country today.
DeleteI like a lot of the country-pop too.
ReplyDeleteI don't listen to it much. Only a couple songs I catch randomly while skimming over the CMT (Country Music Television) channel. If I like them, I'll look them up and play them again. I like Luke Combs and Chris Stapleton and Miranda Lambert and Ashley McBryde.
DeleteA man and his "price"!
ReplyDeleteHick is ecstatic when he gets something for FREE!
