Neither Rain Nor Sleet Nor Dark of Night, Nor Pieces Falling Off a Vehicle

Here's another Pony tale about work life. The Pony is fine. He had a decent vehicle on Tuesday, the newest van in their fleet, dedicated to the route he was covering for a vacationing regular. It's the route The Pony had a hold on for a month or two, before a regular was assigned. Anyhoo... the story developed when he returned to the office.

"Oh, Mom. The story from work today is that one of the rural carriers had part of her car fall off! It was the running board, or I think the part where a running board should go if you had one. Lucky for her, the person helping her with the route picked it up and brought it back to the office. It wouldn't fit in her little SUV. So when I walked in the office, a girl was dragging a giant piece of metal, longer than she was tall."

Let the record show that rural carriers are responsible for providing their own vehicle. I have seen some driving an LLV (Long Life Vehicle), the standard post office chunky car. But that might be because they had car trouble or something. It's bad enough that gas prices are going to eat them up lately. But somebody is going to need her car put back together. I guess it drove well enough without that piece. So we'll see what news The Pony hears on the situation.

The Pony's job is never boring.

    1. The Pony is too busy gaming on his time off. A blog is too slow for him! But I'll gladly repeat his stories for you. I'm a giver like that, after taking.

  2. My husband was a rural carrier, it was hard when he first started with a regular vehicle. Then we found a used right hand drive jeep. It was a red and was named Pepe. He was blessed at the beginning. He was the person always called to cover a route first. He worked full time as a substitute and was able to regular very quickly. Sounds like Pony is doing really well!

    1. That worked out great for him! Hick says someplace near here sells right-hand drive cars to rural carriers. In fact, I think it's a JEEP dealer. The Pony says it's hard around here for a rural carrier to make regular.

The Pony is a CCA, and now has only 3 people ahead of him for regular. I think he was #9 when he started last April. He made a fortune in overtime just before, and during the holidays.

  3. Being her own vehicle she will have to pay that repair herself, but as long as the wheels don't fall off or her engine drop out, she should be okay to keep working while she saves the repair money.

    1. Those repair costs should be tax-deductible! At least she can still drive her jalopy!

    1. I'm trying not to think about it, but I'm going to need to pull my head out of the sand soon. Hick is saying April for a finish date. Just the inside. We need more money for the outside. After The Pony starts paying payments, we can use it and tack it onto the total payoff.
