Pony House Painting: Progress Continues

Most of the Pony House construction is finished. Hick still needs to get under the house for some plumbing issues. The cold and wet weather has put the kibosh on that task for a couple months. Once that is done, Hick needs to get city water hooked up to test the tub, showers, sinks, and toilets. The living room floor needs some tender loving care, or possible replacement. And the back of the house needs to be torn off to form the back porch.

The drywall is finished. The windows and doors are trimmed. The furnace is working. The rooms are getting painted. Hick says once he gets the water hooked up, and a city inspection, The Pony could move in and live there, even if there are a few bugs (poor word choice!) to be worked out. Since Hick could still work on them while The Pony is at work.

The Pony chose blue for the color of the Master Bathroom. It might look better if Hick had opened the shades before taking the picture. That's the bathroom closet door. Still needs a coat of paint, white, I assume. The blue paint looks dark here, but I think it's just the lighting. Hick also used the blue paint in the hall to Bedroom 2, by the laundry room.

I was against this plan, thinking the blue was too dark for an interior hallway. Looks like Hick has proved me wrong. The hall light, and the natural light from the bedroom, make it work. You just can't go buying paint all willy-nilly. On a budget, you use what you've got. And you don't want the entire house to be white. Too hospital-y for me! To the right, you can see the front door and part of the living room.

Hick works on Pony House every day, finishing odds and ends. His old man helper does most of the painting. He works from 8:00 to noon. Hick sometimes calls it quits then, but usually works later.

  1. Painting is actually pretty easy...unless you want it to look nice. Then it can be a bitch. Looks like the old man helper knows what he is doing.

  2. I like the blue, says the woman who is about to paint some shelves with ceiling paint. You use what you have, especially with the price of paint these days. I lurk around the "oops" paint section and have been known to mix my own questionable shades of paint.

    1. Hick would use what he had sitting around, but The Pony has a say in it.

  3. I like that blue very much, but not if it goes into every room. That would be too much! It's looking more like a home now.

    1. Most of the house will be the gray/white paint that Pony chose. I think it's called "Icicle."
