Pony House Done: Back Wall

Pony House is done! Not DONE, done. But mostly done. The Pony moved in on Sunday. So it's done enough. Of course there are still a few lingering projects for Hick. One of them is the back wall of Pony House. Hick feels like he is basically done with it, now that he tore off the back wall and made a porch.

Let's have a refresher. Here's the street view of Pony House from the front.

And here's a street view of Pony House's rear:

Hick worked on renovating the back right corner, which is the Master Bathroom now.

Here is what was under the siding. Which Hick then ripped off down to the bones:

Purty, ain't it? You're looking right into The Pony's Master Bathroom-to-be. Hick covered this area with what he told me was CEDAR SIDING. Which looked nothing like the cedar siding we put on my $17,000 house. This was sheets of alleged-cedar plywood-like boards:

I KNOW! Few people were fans of this look. Me being the #1 non-fan. The portion to the left is what Hick planned to tear out, and make a back porch with a roof, at the back door of Pony House.

And FINALLY, what the back of Pony House looks like now:

Okay. It's not COMPLETELY done, but it doesn't interfere with the living quarters inside. Hick says he still needs a header, and he's planning to pour 4 inches of concrete for the porch. He will need to power-wash the boards where the rain splashed mud, and put in the gravel drainage area there which was always going to be one of the last things done.

The back will be painted white at the very least, or perhaps a light blue/gunmetal gray if that's what The Pony chooses for the whole house. Siding will be an option later...

    1. Hick's work IS quite "breathtaking." He has a knack for all things mechanical, and can see what a house may become. It's only the alleged-cedar plywood-like boards that I have an issue with.

  2. That is a cool bachelor pad, but would make a fantastic she-shed, writer's retreat, if you were to gussy it up. Seriously, Hick has done a fantastoc job and the Pony will appreciate his new home.

    1. The garage is what could become a fantastic she-shed, if only I wanted to drive to town to utilize it. Hick has mulled making it an apartment for seniors, for The Pony to garner rental income. Not much hassle, with old people likely to pay the rent, and not destroy the premises...

The Pony is thrilled with his new quarters! He stayed up until 2:00 a.m. playing online video games with his 4000x faster-than-ours internet.

  3. And get that roof propped up level, with a good strong porch post, (veranda post?) it looks like it wants to fall down.

    1. That's the purpose of the "header" that Hick says he needs. A long board that supports the edge of the roof from one side to the other. He has it temporarily supported by that pole.

  4. Th man has vision! I don't mind his cedar boards, since he carried them across. They will look a lot better after painting.

    1. Yes, they'll look more like they belong on the house once they're painted to match. Hick's excuse is: "You can't see the rest of the house when you're looking at the back."
