An On-the-Job Visitor

The Pony has been working a fairly normal schedule these days. He's on a different route every day now, but generally works 8-9 hours a day, and gets two days off every week. Not together, of course. But two days off.

Last week he had an unexpected visitor.

I am jealous! But I suppose now The Pony needs watching-over more than I do. I am sorely disappointed that a ladybug did not find its way to me during my Unfortunate HospitVALzation. Then again, the policy was strictly NO VISITORS...

The ladybug landed on The Pony while he was walking his route. It was during a particularly heavy gust of wind. It stayed with him a while. The Pony said that ladybug crawled around and made its way up to his neck. At which point he persuaded it to crawl on a piece of mail, and then released it on a green leafy bush.

The Pony is approaching his mandatory 5 days off prior to his 1-year employment anniversary. There has to be a separation of service for the CCAs (City Carrier Assistant). They can't continue employment past one year. They have to stop, then start the next year after the five-day break. Technically, they are temporary employees. They DO get to keep their seniority within their office. At the end of two years, they automatically become regulars, with upgraded benefits and a raise, even if there is no designated route available.

Anyhoo... The Pony has still not received his Continuation Of Pay that is due to him for the time he was off with his broken ankle! It has been submitted since his Worker's Comp claim was reinstated and approved back in December. It has been showing "PROCESSING" since January. The Pony's supervisory personnel say the best way to get it might be to file a grievance through his union. That is currently on the table.

Oh, and The Pony will be MOVING INTO PONY HOUSE THIS MONTH!

  1. No lady bug; no visitors allowed? LOL
Tell your kiddo the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Hope you receive a visit soon.

    1. I was not thinking about a ladybug during my Unfortunate HospitVALzation, but seeing one there would have been no stranger than the time I saw one during Open House.

A student was there with her parents, holding a much younger (non-walking baby) sibling on her hip. She turned to look at the baby, and exclaimed, "How did THAT get on you?" And gently removed a ladybug from the baby's face.

    2. We are always telling The Pony to be squeaky-er, and stop rolling along complacently, letting others control his destiny.

  2. MOVING INTO THE HOUSE! I bet that's why the lady bug joined him at work. It's your mum telling him congratulations, for a year at work and getting into his house.
"processing..."at less than snail's pace I fear. He needs to do some butt-kicking, via his union of course.

    1. Maybe. The Pony has had a ladybug land on him while studying for finals at OU, and just before going out on the football field in the OU stadium to be recognized with all the National Merit Scholars. All coincidental, of course...

I don't know what the deal is with that "processing" stuff. The Pony's supervisory personnel have submitted what was needed on their end. Nothing should be "processing" for that long. It should be paid, or denied with a reason, or more info requested. He has the official paperwork saying he should get that pay from his broken ankle time.

  3. Nice, a ladybug! Moving out soon, you will be an empty nester. I don't get that term. I still have a nest and it is occupied by two people and 4 dogs, a cat and a turtle! My nest is far from empty!!

    1. Thanks for reminding me! I keep trying not to think of it. The Pony says he will be moving stuff as soon as Sunday, if he gets off early enough. He's taking five days of leave next week. You'd think he's moving cross-country! Not just 10 miles.

THE FURNITURE IS BEING DELIVERED TODAY!
