The impending shut-down of the flea market where Hick hosts his Storage Unit Store has not slowed down his search for inventory. Sometimes he buys things he didn't even know he was looking for. Like this week.
Hick got a call from a family acquaintance, who offered him this unique item:
She was asking $300. Hick bought it for $150. He's a pretty good bargainer.
Hick says it's an antique hotel coffee warmer, from late 1800 or early 1900. It doesn't MAKE the coffee. Just keeps it warm. Made of copper. Used by hotels, Hick thinks. He found one that sold for $1700. It had all its parts. Hick says this one is missing some glass tubes.
"It's missing about $100 worth of parts. Those tubes can be bought easy enough. Lots of things use those tubes. They're clear glass, and let you see how much of something is left inside, without looking inside."
Okay. I'll take his word for it. Hick is asking $300 for his coffee warmer. He put a picture on his Facebook page, saying, "Come see me at the flea market this weekend, and check out my new items." A lady has already contacted Hick, saying she's interested in that coffee warmer, and she'll be coming to see him. No price was discussed. Hick says she likely wants it for her fancy house she's building, as an antique to have on display.
Shh... Hick says since he knows her, he might be able to part with his coffee warmer for $250. He's not in it to get rich. He wants to move merchandise and make a little profit, not sit on something hoping it will eventually sell for a high price.

I found this one that looks very similar. But no price.
My first thought was part of an illegal still, with those taps at the bottom to enable sampling of the product. Then I thought Tea Urn, but coffee warmer sounds right too.

DeleteWheeler dealer Hick knows how to turn a dollar.
ReplyDeleteHick can turn a dollar like a frat boy putting his head on a bat and spinning around 10 times before trying to run in a straight line. That dollar never know how it got in Hick's pocket.
