Meanwhile, In Backroads...

Hick had an adventure on Tuesday. He had been texting a guy about fishing plugs. Apparently, the guy had a LOT of them. Hick is always in the market for new merchandise. He knows the value of fishing plugs, and will buy many of them just to get a couple good ones. He also repairs them for resale.

The guy was originally going to come to Hick's Storage Unit Store on Sunday, but changed his mind. Then changed it back, after Hick came home. Hick told him he didn't want to drive back to town, as he was mowing the yard, had plans to take a dip in Poolio, and then have supper. So they agreed on 4:30 Tuesday for the transaction.

Hick actually got a call around 4:00, and said he was going. No big deal. He meets people up there all the time. This time, Hick had a story.

"We was standing out front of my unit, talking. I had some of the plugs on the back of the truck, looking at them. And here comes the police. He drove in and asked us what we were doing. I said I'd just bought some fishing plugs, and was looking at them. I didn't even have my Storage Unit open.

The cop said, 'The burglar alarm is going off.' I said, 'There ain't no alarm down in here. There's one in the OFFICE. But there ain't nobody in there. Hasn't been the whole time we was here.' About that time, two more police cars showed up."

"Ooh! Did you get frisked? Did you have to lay down on the gravel?"

"Nah. The one cop took our driver's licenses, and wrote down some information. He said he had to, to show that he'd been in contact with someone, and checked out the alarm. The other cop recognized me. He's the one who took my report when that gun got stolen. Then they left."

I'm not sure if Hick managed to set off an alarm in the office. Everybody with a storage unit has a code they punch in that opens the main gate. It doesn't require anything to do with the office building. What a coincidence, huh?

Good to know that Backroads is safe on a Tuesday afternoon from the likes of roving Hicks.

  1. I at least think they should have given him a good frisk.

    1. It would have enhanced his story, so I agree!

  2. Probably a lady bug tripped the alarm...at 11:11...and left a penny?

    1. That probable penny will catch up to me. Orb K is just down the road. It can roll downhill, and I'll eventually find it!

    1. Fishing lures. Fake bait. Usually with a lot of hooks on them. The old ones are wooden. I think most of the newer ones are plastic.

  4. Hick is lucky he wasn't flung to the ground, spread eagle. I;m thinking that poltergeist may have more to do with the dad than the boys.

    1. Hick is lucky he wasn't packing heat! Another buddy keeps telling him, "You're an old man now. You don't stand a chance against some young guy. They'll knock you over the head and rob you. When you meet people up there, you need to be prepared to protect yourself."

Hick has a money plan, which involves not carrying around his whole bankroll. He has a throw-down bankroll that he'll give up. Like how a convenience store only keeps a certain amount in the register, and drops the rest into the safe.
