The Pony's Largesse Has Been Greatly Exaggerated

When I stopped by Pony House on Thursday to pick up The Pony's house payment check, he came out the back door bearing a paper plate and his checkbook. I assumed he had brought himself a snack to tide him over during the transaction. I sometimes grow a bit long-winded, not having him as a captive audience under my roof any more.

"Here. Would you like a crab rangoon?"

"No, that's okay. Go ahead."

"Actually, I brought it for you, with plans to use the empty plate for something to lay my scratchers on while I scratch them."

"Oh! Well. In that case, I DO love a good crab rangoon."

"It's not from the best place, but the other one here in town."

I took a bite of the crab rangoon. Mmm. It was crispy, and warm. How nice of The Pony to save a crab rangoon and heat it up for me! Such a thoughtful fellow.

After getting the check, and The Pony uncovering a $100 winner on a $5 ticket, he grew antsy.

"I know, I know. You're bored already. I told you I had to leave by 3:00, to get to the credit union and bank on time. I still have 8 minutes! What is so important that you have to leave right now?"

"Well, I'd like to finish eating my food."

"What do you mean?"

"My Chinese food I had delivered right before you got here."

"I told you yesterday I'd be leaving home at 2:00. And I sent you a text when I left the driveway. You know it takes me 20 minutes to get here."

"When I hadn't heard from you by 1:45, I ordered Chinese. It got here right before you showed up."

"Oh. Well. Go ahead then! I'd hate to keep you from your Chinese."

Seriously. That's what happens when you ASSUME! I mistakenly assumed that The Pony had eaten Chinese the night before, and had warmed up a crab rangoon for me from the leftovers. I had no idea that he'd order Chinese delivered moments before I was due to arrive.

At least I got a nice hot crab rangoon out of my visit.

    1. The Pony is known for his lack of caring about other people. It came out in his FAFSA survey, when he answered that he was not interested in helping people recovering from a natural disaster. Also, when an old lady fell in Walmart, and I asked him to go help her get up (he was high school age), he said, "No. That's alright."

So... I was kind of surprised that he had saved and warmed me a crab rangoon! Which he hadn't!

Still, it was thoughtful of him to give me one, even though he ended the offer by saying, "I have plenty."

  2. He should have mentioned the Chinese food right away, so you could suggest he bring some along. It's sweet of him to get you a crab rangoon :)

    1. If I had known, I would have let him go in sooner. I would never keep anybody from hot Chinese food!

    1. Yes, it was thoughtful for The Pony to share a crab rangoon with me. He always gets a "family" order on the side.

  4. Crab Rangoon sounds like something you should get a vaccine for.

    1. A vaccine that has to be transported at 50 bazillion degrees below zero, but is given in any grocery store or parking lot? I'll take my chances with the Crab Rangoon. I've had so many Crab Rangoon that I might be immune.
