You might think that after our Frito-Chili-Pie-denied, hot-buttered-Pony-leg experience at the High Winds Casino restaurant, we would have taken our appetites elsewhere the next day. You'd better think again. Sis wanted that FRITO CHILI PIE! And The Pony likes his steak. Back we went, during the Frito Chili Pie hours, to have our lupper. That's the meal which is a combination lunch and supper. Late lunch, early supper. Substantial enough that you don't need two meals, when this one will do.
We had a different waitress this time. When Sis ordered her Frito Chili Pie, she asked about the Frito situation.
"We were here yesterday, and I really wanted the Frito Chili Pie. The waitress then told me you were out of Fritos! So I need to know if you have Fritos. Don't take my order, and then come back later and tell me you're out of Fritos."
"Oh. I'm pretty sure we have them. I'll come right back to let you know if we don't."
The waitress took our orders, and did not return. So Sis was able to anticipate her Frito Chili Pie. When it was brought to the table, she was pleased with her dish. It had Fritos. It had chili. It was a more-than-adequate portion.
Please note the keen fashion sense of Sis in the background. I alternated between calling her a jail prisoner and a mime. Sis did not seem to appreciate my razor-sharp wit. Go figure.
Sis really liked her Frito Chili Pie. At first. The more she ate of it, the more she noticed how spicy it was. She needed something to cool her palate. Lucky for Sis, she was seated beside The Pony, who had ordered a side of Onion Straws. Which are crispy fried onion strands.
Don't worry. The Pony is quite generous with food that has been purchased by his Dad's credit card. He invited Sis to partake of this crispy treat, and even to use the dipping sauce to cool down her mouth. Also don't worry that The Pony might have gone without enough feed. He ordered another sirloin.
At least The Pony's extra Herbed Butter stayed on his sirloin this time, and wasn't drizzled on his leg by an Emo Guy bad at plate-balancing. Yes, for his two sides on the regular-priced sirloin, The Pony asked for a baked potato and FRIES. Also notice his buttered potato. The Pony eschews sour cream, so that's how I know it's butter.
Hick ordered the Chicken-Fried Chicken this time. I think it was a boneless piece of chicken, fried like a chicken-fried steak, with the white gravy on top. Also a side of mashed potatoes.
This was off the $5 Special menu, like Sis's Frito Chili Pie. It also came with a side of green beans, which I think are in that bowl at the bottom. At least Hick and The Pony got a roll this time.
I didn't get a picture of XXM's meal, because he got the same thing I did: Loaded Nachos with Pulled Pork.
Oh my gosh! I am full all over again just looking at that photo. They were delicious! Chips, queso, mixed shredded cheese, pulled pork, tomatoes, onions, and sides of salsa and sour cream. We both said, "Hold the jalapenos!" Also, we both asked for an extra salsa and sour cream.
Sooo... the quest for the Frito Chili Pie ended with success. But Sis discovered that it was a little too spicy for her taste. She ate about half. And more than that of The Pony's Onion Straws.

It all looks delicious and I see nothing wrong with ordering fries as well as a baked potato. I'm a little concerned about the lack of greenery, not a single lettuce leaf even? Just a few green beans which may or may not have been eaten.
ReplyDeleteI used to get baked potatoes from a van called Murphy's Spuds, near the Central Market, when the lids were all still living at home, I'd promise them a potato each if they'd come and help with the mountains of fruit and veg I was buying. Then one day the van just wasn't there and never seen again.
The Pony choosing two potato sides was like carb-loading for a marathon, or perhaps walking an 11-mile mail route! He DID eat all of his plate-sized Caesar salad the night before, so The Pony was not greenery-deficient on this trip.
DeleteHick most definitely ate all of his green beans. He loves them. I just didn't remember how they were served, since they are clearly not on the plate.
We were in the middle of CasinoPalooza, not on a health spa retreat! Maybe you should be concerned about us not doing yoga in between slot machines!
Sorry about the disappearance of your spudwagon! It had to make the bribery so much harder! I could bribe Genius with cash, but money had no value to The Pony, who could not even be BRIBED to help people.
Everything looks delicious...except I feel I need to double my Lipitor dose.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure the staff can update your meds while you're having an exfoliating scrub, right after your yoga session, and before your herbal wrap, at the health spa retreat.
DeleteMy youngest loves potatoes and has been known to order baked, mashed and fried in one meal. She considers a potato a vegetable of the most nutritious variety.
ReplyDeleteShe's got The Pony beat! He likes mashed potatoes, but would probably get double fries instead, to accompany his baked potato.
