Another Incident of Things That Go SPOOK in the Day

Looks like Val is not only a Weirdo Magnet, she's also harboring a hidden paranormal vortex.

You may recall that several months ago, Chinese condiments jumped off the shelf while Val was perusing Walmart's pickle and olive section. That time, I was on the aisle all alone.

This time, I had a witness, though I did not have her sign an affidavit for evidence. I got a picture, which is good enough proof for Genius, so it will have to satisfy any naysayers.

I only dashed into Walmart for few items. Two of which were Hawaiian Rolls and hot dog buns. I'd just turned my cart onto the bread aisle, and was looking for the freshest dates on the hot dog buns. Not touching them. Just leaning over to peer at the dates on packages stacked on the three shelves allotted to hot dog buns, having pulled my glasses down off my head to look through the bifocals.

I sensed someone behind me, and glanced around to see if I was in the way. No. A lady WAS behind me, but she was looking at the frozen dinners in the freezer case opposite the bread. As I turned back to mind my own business, I saw a loaf of bread shoot out at the other end of the aisle! I was startled, but also relieved, because that witness could see that I was nowhere near that fallen loaf, so I wouldn't be mentally blamed for it.

That's my witness, way down there at the end. I waited until she went by, so as not to look like a freak taking a picture of floor-bread. I think it must be a loaf of raisin bread, because that section is past the regular breads, down towards the tortillas and muffins and donuts and snack cakes. I didn't go all the way down there to find out. It's best to avoid temptation when shopping before lunch.

When I zoomed in on my picture, it looks like that loaf came from the top shelf. There might even be another purplish colored package ready to take the plunge. I did try for more of a closeup with my phone camera. And when looking at THIS picture...

I noticed ANOTHER fallen item on the floor. I did not see this one jump. Maybe I have a doppelganger who went down that aisle before me. I think that flat package must be a box of snack cakes or honey buns.

Is this some kind of metaphysical phenomenon? Like the belief of some former students that you can balance an egg on its end during the equinox? My last SPOOKING incident at Walmart was June 24th, three days after the summer solstice. And this latest incident was September 21st, one day before the autumn equinox. How can anyone possibly balance an egg on its end if loaves of bread can't even balance themselves on Walmart shelves?

I don't know what's going on here. I have shopped for more years than I care to reveal, and I don't remember stuff flying off shelves like this.

  1. Hmmm. That is creepy. Did you buy your own bread from the shelf? I like Hawaiian bread way too much.

    1. I only got the buns and Hawaiian sub rolls there. If I buy bread, it's the Nutty Oat, which I think you can see near the cart in the picture. However, we don't eat much regular bread, and it goes to the dogs. So I've been getting a version of the nutty oat at Save A Lot, where it comes in a half-loaf.

Hick brought home THREE packs of the Savory Butter Hawaiian Rolls from his class reunion on Saturday. They're in the freezer now.

  2. You've got those good vibrations happening. Did your mom like raisin bread?

I was at a book store when a religious book shot off the shelf at me. I KNOW that was my late mom getting her point across.

    1. No, I don't recall ever seeing my mom eat raisin bread. I don't think it goes with SLAW.

Heh, heh! The message comes through. Here's my latest Mom-ish experience that I'm not sure you saw.

  3. I've heard of things flying off a stores shelves, but not in the same context.

    1. Yeah, it's a little different than the doilies flying off the shelves at Hick's Storage Unit Store.

  4. You had to mention raisin bread didn't you! I love the stuff and almost bought a loaf yesterday, but told myself I would only eat it, which isn't such a bad thing, but I would eat it (toasted) with about a ton of butter per slice which is most definitely a bad thing, so I left it on the shelf and now I really want some...
If that loaf of bread was in someone's trolley, then placed back on the shelf after a change-of-mind incident, it could be that the slices are no longer properly aligned and being shoved back on the shelf it might just keep tilting forward until it falls. I notice the loaves are standing, so imagine someone holding the bottom end and shoving a loaf back onto a high shelf so the top of the loaf is bent a little forward, you get the idea? in our supermarkets the loaves are laying flat and the shelves get restocked several times during the day.

    1. Maybe it's a sign for you, coming from the other side of the world, to treat yourself (in moderation) to some raisin bread. Leave out a couple slices, and freeze the rest for later. Then you won't feel like you have to eat it before it goes bad!

I do see that kind of loaf sitting on end on the top shelf, way down there, and it looks like it's leaning. I think it's more likely that the careless workers rushed through their stocking job and set it askew. There were FOUR of them on the next aisle, flapping their jaws while ONE of them stocked the pickle/olive shelf. I noticed, because I wanted olives, but the shelf was still bare.

It was two guys and two gals, and I wasn't even going to try and butt in to ask for service.

    2. Omg, I used to love raisin toast smothered in butter and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

    3. Never had it, but it MUST be good, judging by the glowing reviews it's getting here!

    4. I do freeze the raisin bread, my problem is the amount of butter I slather on each slice.

  5. Did you hear a tiny voice coming from the bread on the floor saying, "Buy me, buy me"?

    1. No. But even better, I did not hear a voice saying, "EAT ME!"

  6. I love raisins. I love the bread, the cereal, the cookies. Sunshine bakery used to sell those cookies called raisin biscuits. Remember those? They were flat with tons of raisins smooshed into the crispy crusts of the cookies. There were three rows of three or four cookies that were perforated to pull them apart easily. I miss them. thanks for the reminder ...

    1. I do not remember raisin cookies. I remember little chocolate chip cookies about the size of a half dollar, with a swirl pattern on top. They came in a box like cereal, and I think Sunshine made them.

    2. I remember those but I don't remember what they were called here. We have a similar biscuit here now called Full'o'Fruit which is mostly sultanas I think and a little citrus peel. I love them.
