He Could at Least Build a Ramp Like the One for His Very Special Chicken

Here is my proposed puppy. He has his eyes open now. Hick's oldest son was at the homestead helping put in some new porch steps Sunday, and his sister-in-law is the one with the puppies. I placed an order for the male pup with the longest legs and the shortest back. Hoping to get more of the blue heeler genes than the dachshund genes. It will be 3-4 weeks before my little (possibly LONG) bundle of joy is ready to come home.

Let's hope Hick has the porch steps ready by then. It all started with that dang carport. A story for another day.

My sweet, sweet Juno will also be happy when the steps are done. Here's a rare appearance by our silky-coated Val's Best Friend. That's the north end of a southbound Juno. Still photogenic, as always, IF you can get her to hold still long enough.

Right now, there is a 3-4 foot drop-off where the steps used to be. Sunday morning, my sweet, sweet Juno walked across the porch and looked in the living room window. She loves me, you know. Even with insulated glass and screen between us. I talked to her and she pranced and wagged her long feathery tail, then laid down out of sight under the windowsill.

I heard the Gator engine start up. Hick was over on Shanty Boulevard. Juno jumped up all excited. GATOR!!! She was itching to run after it. She looked sadly over her shoulder at the missing steps. Then took off past the pew, around the corner, past Ann's old doghouse, past the French doors to my bedroom, past the laundry room door, around the semicircle of protuding kitchen windows, across the back deck by her own doghouse, past Gassy-G the auction grill, and down the steps by the garage. She came tearing across the front yard and caught up to Hick before he reached the BARn.

I hope my new puppy is as smart as Juno, and doesn't fling himself straight off the porch like dear departed dogs Grizzly, Tank-the-beagle, and poor dumb Ann.

  1. For a puppy he looks smart enough to figure out those steps.

  5. Those legs look like they won't get longer than six inches. Just kidding. I'm sure that Juno will teach the new pup all about his new home... especially how to avoid eating those pesky eggs that are scattered around the estate.

    1. As long as I got the puppylonglegs of the litter, I'm fine with that. I'm pretty sure Pup won't be eating eggs...

  6. We had a pup who laid on his belly and scooted down the very slight incline of the lawn. He was terrified of steps. He was shortchanged on many areas. Your little baby is a cutie.

    1. Poor dumb Ann's brother used to routinely fall down the steps. Until Hick ran over him.

One thought it was safe to sleep under a truck, one thought it was safe to back up a truck with a dog sleeping under it. We know all about shortchanging around here.

Pup is cute for what he is.

    1. I don't know if I would go so far as to call him adorable. But he is at least breathtaking.

Juno has her PhD in Animal Husbandry, and wrote her thesis on Egg Production in Yard Chickens.

  8. Awwwwwwww. Just imagining sweet puppy breath and tiny puppy feet scampering along ....... hope those doxie genes don't give you an excited bladder pup, one who pees a little every time he gets excited.

    1. Well, he'll be out on the porch or in the yard, so even that would be okay.
