TUESDAY, February 26, I had lunch with my favorite gambling aunt. We planned to meet at 11:30, for a Personal Pan Pizza. About halfway there, I heard my phone announce an incoming text. The time was 11:11. Auntie was going to be late. Because of that, I did my Walmart shopping first instead of last. After dragging out lunch until 3:00, I made a side trip to a nearby Casey's for scratchers. Of course my two favorite parking spots were taken. I had to park in front. Not even the space in front that I like!
When I came out of the store, my attention was drawn to a stream of light, beaming down from the heavens...
Such a localized beam! I visually followed that stream of light, and saw A PENNY! Behind T-Hoe, where I wouldn't have looked, had it not been for the illuminatory arrow pointing me that way. In the space I never park. Two hours later than I'd planned to be there. Huh! Don't that just beat all?
Mr. Lincoln was heads up this time, a blast from the past, circa 1975, when I started my senior year of high school.
At home later, I sat down on the short couch to talk to Hick for five minutes, during his supper before one of his many auctions. I'll be darned if my attention wasn't drawn to the end of House Hunters, where a family was walking into their new house, and a little girl was pulling a LADYBUG suitcase! This was actually my third ladybug sighting since starting BirthdayPalooza. More on that coming...

FRIDAY, March 1, my final stop on the daily 44 oz Diet Coke quest was Orb K. I'd just turned in a winner for new scratchers (losers!). As I pivoted from the counter, I saw
... a penny waiting just for me! And that the Backroads world was once again safe for people needing energy supplements.
It was face-down, 1993, a year which bears no special significance. It was before Genius, when Hick and I were living in my $17,000 house in town, both of us working in the city.
Before I had grand dreams of becoming a Pennyillionaire!

I wonder if there isn't a clerk at the Orb K betting another worker when he sees you coming, "I'll bet you a buck this lady is going to take a picture of the floor." And then quietly drops a penny on the floor.
ReplyDeleteThat's okay. I'm fine with being a thread in the rich tapestry of convenience store clerks' lives.
DeleteI also wonder if someone is putting you on, watching and waiting for you.
ReplyDeleteIt would still mean these pennies are left there just for me! The manner in which they arrive is of little consequence.
DeleteThink of all the man-hours wasted, with clerks at five convenience stores and three grocery stores hanging around waiting to see where I will shop on a given day!
That first is definitely a penny from heaven, with heaven making sure you didn't miss it.
ReplyDeleteSenior in high school in 1975? I had my second baby in 1975.
I picked up what heaven was laying down!
DeleteI got off to a slower start in the second-baby business.
My twins were born in 1975. Along came Adrienne in '78, ending my birthing career. I was almost 25. Oh, wait, we were talking about pennies?
ReplyDeleteHeh, heh. I have been known to digress, myself!
