POKER? He Doesn't Even KNOW Her!

Saturday morning, The Pony cleaned out T-Hoe and found a treasure. He carried it into the dark house and held it in front of the living room window with a glare of natural light behind him.

"Look. That picture Dad found in Grandma's garage when he and the ex-mayor cleaned it out."

"I can't see that, Pony. There's a glare. Bring it over here."

"You know those pictures of dogs playing poker. It's kind of like that. It's a dog in a raincoat. Dad said he brought it because it looked like me. I MEAN, he said it looked like something I'd want. I don't, really. But he brought it for me, and it was Grandma's."

"What are you going to do with it?

"I have no idea."

And I have no idea why Mom had this picture in her garage. It's not even a real picture. There's a frame. But this is like a magazine cover stuck inside. Mom never had a dog that I know of. She said when she was a kid, her dad had beagles. But she never spoke of a pet. And she only tolerated our miniature poodle, Buster. So why she had a framed picture of a dog in a raincoat, under an umbrella, is beyooooond me.

Shhh...I don't want my sister the ex-mayor's wife getting wind of our windfall. She might come a-knockin'.

    1. I'm sure that will work. Sis knows our animals are much more talented and intelligent than hers. She used to have a dog that got its head stuck in a big opaque plastic jar, like mayonnaise might come in at a prison.

That dog ran around the yard, whacking its head on numerous trees, until my nephew caught her and removed the jar.

  2. Yeah, you could take it to Antiques Roadshow, and it might be worth a fortune. But then you'd only have 5% of a windfall, because your sister would insist on the other 95%...

    1. My high school band teacher used to have a pair of weimaraners. I was band president, you know. The executive council was invited to his house for dinner. No funny business. His wife was there too. So that's how I know he had weimaraners. And he kept them in the house. They were as big as donkeys. He was not.

Looking back, I think maybe he was overcompensating.

    1. That might explain the royal portrait treatment of this blue-eyed beauty. Come to think of it...my mom had blue eyes...and Genius has blue eyes...and my niece has blue eyes. The rest of us, not so much.
