Allegedly, Val is an -IST

Friday, I noticed an interesting vehicle on the parking lot of The Gas Station Chicken Store. It was parked with the door open. I think I saw someone move inside. Not sure. I was twisted around backwards trying to get a picture. Not because I was documenting possible evidence. Because I was going to send it to The Pony.

"Am I a "classist" for putting my purse out of sight when I went in The Gas Station Chicken Store for my 44 oz Diet Coke?"

"YES"

"Maybe when you actually have some money, you might see the world differently. Or I guess other people might be hiding their purses from YOU!"

"If you got an over-the-shoulder purse, that classism wouldn't be a problem."

"I have one, but only for gambling. I don't haul my regular purse into every store with me."

Here's the thing. I'm not accusing those van people of being thieves. It just looks that way, because they're driving that van. No. Wait. That's not how I meant it to sound. I generally leave my purse sitting on the passenger seat as I dash inside for a few items. If I see any people hanging out, or sitting in a car nearby, I put my purse out of sight, no matter how new or old the car is.

When I go in Walmart, I ALWAYS put my purse out of sight, because I know I'll be inside for a while. Likewise, I don't even take my regular purse to a casino, because I won't leave it in the car, not even the trunk, because of valet parking.

See? I don't think it's so wrong to put my purse out of sight with an open van sitting right there. It's just bad optics. The Pony calls all white vans "raper vans." But you don't see me calling him a... um... a... "ra-something-ist!"

It's just common sense. I'm a sense-ist.

Of course, some people I park next to probably take one look at my 2008 T-Hoe, and stuff their purse way up under the seat.

  1. It is not -ist to not leave temptation around, like would you leave a ten dollar bill in the windshield wiper?

There is a scene in "Curb Your Enthusiasm" where Larry walks from his car and as an after-thought thinks to lock it with his remote. As it locks "Boop boop" a black man walks by and yells at Larry for being racist and only locking the car because he saw a black man nearby. Tried to find on YouTube but could not...it is hysterical.

    1. NO to leaving a TDB in the WW! I'm not a charity! I'll look for the "Curb Your Enthusiasm" clip sometime when I can take time out of my busy schedule. Like when it's a slow conspiracy theory day.

  2. My granddaughter lives in a rural area and also thinks it's okay to leave her purse on the seat while she darts in. I am not a classist, I am a realist. Up her it would be gone in a jiffy, and I don't mean peanut butter. That is some van!

    1. I guess the crooks are slower and lazier down here. Hick used to drop me off at my old unemployment office on Morganford, by the Bevo Mill, when we drove to the city together for work. I sometimes had to wait 10 or 15 minutes before my supervisor got there to unlock the door. My co-workers were adamant that I COULDN'T DO THAT! They said the ne'er-do-wells were even out at 6:45 a.m., and it was dangerous. So then I started sharing a ride with another guy from down here.

I hope I don't see that van parked down by our creek!

  3. After having my purse stolen I take it with me no matter how inconvenient it is. I have learned that lesson well.

    1. You can do public service announcements via blogs! I don't know why I assume my purse is safer than my long-ago lawnmower that was stolen from behind my $17,000 house, even though Hick had laid a piece of metal over the top...

  4. I think you should put your purse out of sight ALL THE TIME not just when there are people about. It's a good habit to get into. You think you're only going to dash in and then out again, but what if something happens and you are stuck in there for longer? You could come out and find broken window glass all over the empty passenger seat. Smash and grab is pretty common.

    1. Knowing what I SHOULD do, and actually doing it, are not my strong points.

  5. I hate carrying a purse. I like pockets. If I am just using a debit card, I prefer to just stick it in my pocket, my keys in the other pocket. But I will leave the purse at home. Drivers License can also fit in a pocket.

    1. I specifically like a SHIRT pocket. I always carry my debit card there when shopping. No need to watch out for my purse in the cart. I also stuff my driver's license in there for the casino. Funny how they check ID to get comps and free food!
