Would You Drive Two Hours For Lunch?

Today Hick and Val made another car trip. Half of the way together. The journey is a story for another day. Today we're here to talk about LUNCH!

NOM-NOM!

I had the Steak Fajita Tater:

Hick had the BBQ Pulled Pork Tater:

Genius had the Breaded Chicken Sandwich and fries (as did Friend, but with mashed potatoes, so no pic of his):

We were so eager to strap on the feedbag that I forgot to take pictures before we started! This is halfway through. I brought back the potato part, Hick ate his in its entirety, Genius finished all but a scrap, and Friend completed his mashed potato side and brought back about half his sandwich.

When the food arrived, they had forgotten Hick's cheese. I had a choice of cheese on my Steak Fajita Tater, but I'm back to my post-holiday wise choices. So I eschewed the cheese. Hick, however, pointed out the inadequacy of his plate to the waitress as she walked by. So she grabbed his platter and said, "I'll get you some cheese!"

I turned to Genius on my right, and said, "Yeah. She'll get him some cheese. And SPIT." Being my son, Genius got a snort out of that. I think it went over Hick's head. Even though the other three of us snickered when that waitress brought his plate back, HEAPED with shredded cheese.

"I not only got you cheese, I got you...EXTRA cheese!" Heh, heh. You can bet we were giving each other the side-eye, waiting for her to finish that sentence.

We didn't just drive two hours to have lunch with Genius. We took his Mercury Mariner to within 10 minutes of his college town so he could get it back. He's a traveler, you know. He barely made it back from Oregon after his week-long west coast trip. That, too, is a story for another day. He's as slow at sending me pictures as Hick is at telling me his airplane stories from the Sweden trip. Genius wanted to eat at the roadkill restaurant again, but it isn't open on Mondays. So we went to the tater patch restaurant. I had the link, but something went all wonky. It'll just be my little secret for now.

Anyhoo...Val will not drive on the interstate. So we met Genius at a McDonald's right beside it. His Friend drove him from their house, and Genius took over the Mariner, which we had repaired during his California/Oregon excursion, after his almost-under-a-semi driving adventure last spring.

That's when he fell asleep commuting two hours on the way home one evening, and bounced off 22.2 % of an 18-wheeler's tires.

Anyhoo...now it looks like a million bucks, and it only cost us $1800. No insurance turned in on this one. A couple of estimates were in the $4500 and $3600 range in college town. A guy with a shop about 2 miles down the road from us was much cheaper. We scheduled it over the West Coast trip time so Genius would not be without a vehicle.

Actually, Genius was offered the pick of our vehicles. Except for T-Hoe. I even contemplated A-Cad. But Genius wanted his own car until he left on his trip. Let's hope that brand-spankin'-repaired Mariner has lost its magnetic attraction to more massive automobiles that share the road with it.

However, if it hasn't, I'm always available for lunch.

  2. Yum, looks delicious Val and yes, I WOULD drive 2 hours for lunch, not for the the food so much but for the company at the other end.

    1. I WAS happy to see Genius. I'm pretty fond of his Friend, too. I tell him he's the GOOD son. I even asked to give him a hug, and my best ol' teaching buddy Mabel knows that Val is not a hugger.

    1. If he had time! It was gone pretty quick. In fact, Hick could hardly hold his fork still when I snapped the picture, and only 10% of the cheese remained.

  4. Now I am hungry! I tossed some taters in the oven and I have some leftover roast beef and cheese, lots and lots of cheese ....for the man of the house. I prefer to actually taste the different components of my meal.
If only you would write quickly and tell me about the togetherness with Hick, I could enjoy my tater with a tale!!!

    1. Sorry! You'll have to stretch that meal 4 or 5 days. It will be Saturday or Sunday when I get around to the tale of THIS idyllic trip.

    1. Well, I sure hope you have a pile of taters ready for the lunch rush!

As Hick would say, "I DIDN'T DO IT! Whatever you're talking about, I DIDN'T DO IT!"

I removed both links, just in case. No roadkill or taters for MY readers! I'm doing them (and their waistline) a favor, actually.
