Breaking news from last week's emergency casino trip! VAL HAD PIE!
You might remember how Hick always has pie. I haven't had pie for months. Maybe since last year. I'm not keeping count. I just remember not having pie since The Pony has been home to join us for our casino trips, and that was in May. Of course there WERE NO trips to our new favorite casino between March and May. So it's been a long time since I had casino pie.
It was meant to be. We got in line, and Hick looked at the pie slices in the cooler case, and said, accusingly,
"Huh. Only ONE kind of pie today?"
"Yes. I think it's what they had with the hamburger special the other day, for our 8th Anniversary. So that's what we have."
Heh, heh. Might as well say, "WE'RE GETTING RID OF LEFTOVERS!"
I suppose that's allowed. I know a casino is not like a school, where NO leftovers are to be served, yet they are anyway. Heck, Hick would probably open up a container of pie if he found it on top of the dumpster. Kind of like eating an eclair on a doily on top of a magazine in the wastebasket.
Anyhoo... the pie was all apple, and the price was 2 SLICES FOR $3. Of course we got two! I offered to split the second one with The Pony, but he declined. So now I'll show you a picture of MY PIE!
I'd have gotten a photo of Hick's pie, too, but you might notice that it's conspicuously absent from the background of the picture, where only the empty container remains, stuffed with a used fork, and the cellophane wrapper.
Can you guess what Hick ordered for lunch?
A CHEESEBURGER! Oh, come on! Like you didn't know that in your sleep. I lobbed that question up there like a big fat slow-pitch softball, dropping right over the plate, for a chubby, out-of-shape, has-been, in heather gray sweatpants with the elastic ankles, to swat over the left field fence.
The Pony surprisingly picked the pulled pork sandwich special.
I gotta say, I was terribly jealous! LOOK at all that pork! Much more generous a serving than Hick and I had when WE got the pulled pork sandwich special several trips ago. But mostly, I'm jealous of the BBQ SAUCE! We never got that. Not even on our pulled pork. Oh, and I'm not thrilled with Hick sliding the table trash over into frame as I was taking the picture. The Pony couldn't eat all his sandwich, so left a scrap of Texas toast, and about a third of the meat. Hick shoveled it down his gullet rather than ask for a take-home box.
I went back to my old favorite, the Philly Cheesesteak.
I also had a generous portion. As you can see, they served the sandwich and tater tots separately this time. I devoured the meaty cheesy part, and left most of the toasted roll. Sadly, some tots were also left behind, even though The Pony sampled a few.
In retrospect, the pie may have been a mistake, because I was STUFFED! Still, it's not like we go to the casino every week. Oh, wait...
"I haven't had pie for months". You cannot say no to the pie. I think it's about some commandment.
ReplyDeleteI not a big fan of pie. I usually go without it at the casino (because where else do I encounter pie) since I can't see paying $3.50 for a slice. This was a bargain I couldn't resist. Though I wish it would have been CAKE.
DeleteI haven't had pie in years! Not even my miniature Christmas pies which I don't make anymore because it's such a hassle moving everything (EVERYTHING)off the kitchen bench so I have enough space, I can't use the table like I used to because of the amounts of cat hair everywhere even after I clean it off. Plus the cost of sending them to my interstate friends doubled then tripled and I just couldn't afford it.
ReplyDeleteI could probably make an apple pie or two and freeze individual slices, but it just seems like too much trouble now.
Pie is much more enjoyable when you don't have to make it for yourself!
DeleteI will have pie when I make it. Right now, I am thinking of pie--pumpkin, pecan, mincemeat. So, your pie post made me drool.
ReplyDeleteFor casino pie, it was quite tasty! Your pumpkin pie sounds good, but I'm not a fan of pecan, and have never tried mincemeat.
DeleteThe pie looks good. Philly cheesesteak is a fav of mine, only without peppers and onions (I get the stink eye sometimes when ordered this way) and smothered with ketchup.
ReplyDeleteHeh, heh! My favorite gambling aunt ordered an Italian sausage at (of course) a casino, and then complained that it came with peppers and onions!
DeleteI will admit, those peppers tried to fight their way out of my digestive system the rest of the day. Good thing I carry an emergency generic Pepcid in the pocket of my "gambling uniform" shirt!
As for the ketchup... that's an aberration of nature, like The Pony putting ketchup on his hot dogs.
