The Pony has been delivering on the route he enjoys. The one he put a hold on for the month of July. He is not alone! Sent me a text on Wednesday:
"Little helper following along with me today."
"Aww! Hope he knew his way back home!"
"He's still following! This part is a square though, and ends like 3 down from his house I think."
"Well, it's good to have a buddy that doesn't want a taste of your flesh!"
"Aww. He decided he liked a yard full of dog poop more than me. Betrayal! He'd never make it as a regular."
"I'm glad you are able to resist the call of dog poop!"
This must have been the day we had a cold snap, and the temp only reached a high of 84, judging by The Pony wearing a jacket. Doubt that would happen at 118 in the van.
The next day I got more pictures:
"Beagle followed me again."
"And a ladybug!"
"That looks like TWO ladybugs!"
"Just one ladybug. It was taking flight!"
Good to know The Pony is not lonely on the job. And that somebody is watching over him.
It's always good to have a friend looking out for you. What I can see of the Pony, he looks to be quite a handsome young man. I am always happy to hear how he works every day he's suppose to and does his job to the best of his ability. We still only get our mail every 3 or 4 days and people are finding their mail in the ditch and things are being returned to sender when there is a clear address. It's maddening. Go Pony!! Ranee (MN)
ReplyDeleteThanks for complimenting my little Pony! I've always tried to keep faces off my blog, so I cropped the picture. The Pony is okay with me sharing his tales. In fact, he started out his text with: "Today's blog things!"
DeleteThe Pony is a conscientious worker. He's been doing some random overtime in the mornings, going in at 7:00 to case and something else (I'm not good with the insider lingo). He'd rather do morning overtime than after his own route. Being the newest of the regulars, if workers are needed, he's the first one to be tasked with helping. They have several people on vacation now, and the Amazon Prime period is coming up. So they're a little short-handed.
When The Pony first started as a CCA (City Carrier Assistant), one of the new hires was caught leaving trays of mail in a dumpster! She no longer works there... A customer reported it, and a supervisor went and retrieved the mail. I think it was circulars and stuff, but as The Pony says, THAT is what pays them the most.
He might end up with a dog at his house!! Company is nice. Dogs are the best. I was gong to say theu don't talk back, but mine do!
ReplyDeleteNot this one! He has a home. The Pony could get in trouble for stealing! My dogs only talk at night. LOUDLY. For no good reason.
DeleteMy friend was a mail carrier in Birmingham, AL where he drove a truck. Every day there was a dog that was interested in him and the truck. My friend carried treats, so the dog finally joined him in the truck every day. He rode and seemed happy. Then, my friend was transferred to another area. But, he kept the dog. He had asked and found the dog was a stray that belonged to no one.
ReplyDeleteMaybe you can do a post on vicious dogs. We had a dog that acted like she would eat the mail woman. I met her 40 years later, and she is still traumatized. But, puppy never bit, she just acted vicious. I didn't blame people for being frightened. I am sure pony could tell tales of dogs.
Our old UPS lady used to toss them dog biscuits when they ran to "greet" her. They loved her! Then she retired. I think the new drivers didn't understand it was a GREETING, not an ambush. Our neighbor dog sounds mean, but if anyone is going to bite, it's my little dog Jack. He can't get his mouth open very far, and would be thwarted by high-top shoes or boots.
DeleteI think The Pony has been bitten twice. At the same time! One incident, two dogs. One didn't break the skin, and the other was a scratch. He has refused to deliver at a couple houses with dogs running loose, because they looked menacing. They have that option. And dog spray, and instructions to put their mail pouch between themselves and the dog if attacked. Not leather anymore, just nylon bags. When my sister's husband the ex-mayor used to read meters for the electric company, he said they carried baseball bats to "discourage" attacking dogs. Not sure if that was their actual training!
He looks a lovely little dog, it's nice for The Pony to have someone to talk to as he walks around. Pony has a nice mouth, one that looks like it smiles a lot, not grumpy.
ReplyDeleteThe Pony likes dogs more than people, I think! He's always been quite even-keeled, thought not laugh-out-loud jolly. I've never seen him get really mad. Genius can be a hot-head like his dad, and hold a grudge like I do.
