Pony House Done: Master Bathroom

I might have to retract my previous statement about Pony House Kitchen having the most dramatic make-over. I forgot that the Master Bathroom had its back wall ripped off down to the studs, and the floor joists replaced, and two windows covered up. It was not a bathroom at all. It is NOW!

Hick was not sure what that room was originally used for. Maybe a bedroom?

Here's a peep standing at the back of the Living Room, through the wall that is now the Half Bath. It was a big room, which is why Hick took six feet of it to add to the Master Bedroom.

This is the window that's now over the toilet. On the back wall of Pony House, where Hick tore off everything but the 2x4s, and put in a new window. This picture was taken from standing in the Master Bedroom area.

This picture is from standing by where the toilet is now, and looking through what became the closet, out towards the former back door, on the wall that has now been ripped off, leaving an open back porch.

This view was taken standing by where the Half Bath is now, looking through the now-closet, to where the now-toilet sits under the window.

Drumrollllllll! Ta da-da-DAAAA! Here is the miracle that is Hick's vision.

There is The Pony's precious big oval tub in his Master Bathroom. With jets! And of course a toilet, which had to be close to the tub to allow for the walk-in closet door to open. Hick already had these black-painted panels when he built the enclosure around the tub. The thought was to paint them blue or white, but The Pony preferred them to stay black. So Hick also painted the trim around the edge black.

There's the closet door. The sink and shower, as you step in the door from the Master Bedroom.

There's another view of the shower. The construction dirt had not yet been wiped out.

Here's a view from the toilet/closet area, looking towards the door to the Master Bedroom.

I think the Master Bathroom turned out better than expected. The Pony is happy.

TOMORROW... will be the regular Saturday CENTSus report of Val's Future Pennyillionaire Fortune. But Sunday will resume the Pony House Tour, with the Half Bath and Laundry Room.

Pony House Master Bathroom Progress 01-06-22

Due to a weakening in the pull of my Weirdo Magnet, the only news I have to report this week is the methodical progress on Pony House. Today we have a look at the Master Bathroom's latest update. This picture was taken from the toilet area, looking towards the door to the Master Bedroom

Hick found a vanity over in Bill-Paying Town. I think it cost him $150 for the whole thing. It has the hardware, but will need some drawer handles to jazz it up. Some lady put it on Facebook. Hick commandeered The Veteran, who lives over in that area, to go with him to help load it and then unload it at Pony House.

Hick said I wouldn't like the tight fit between it and the big triangle tub. I'm pretty sure I can fit through there! It's not like I'll be driving over to Pony House to use the Master Bathroom.

They've been taping and mudding the drywall. Not sure what color The Pony wants this bathroom painted. Hick has completed the base for the shower, having to build a little platform to get it level. He's got the framing around the tub. The bathroom door is on. The duct work has been installed by the heating/cooling guy when he put in the furnace. The water pipes have been run. I think Hick has some under-house plumbing to do before having the water turned on.

I guess next might be the shower installation, and the toilet hookup, and the floor.

Hick Hits the Wall(s)

Hick's latest Pony House project has been drywall. The Master Bath and the Master Bedroom are nearing wall completion. Hick has two helpers. His old man buddy, and a mechanical contraption called a drywall lift. He borrowed it from the Son of This Guy, the one who gave him the doors.

That's the drywall lift contraption. Makes hanging drywall on the ceiling MUCH easier than standing on a ladder, or those weird stilts. This is the Master Bathroom. There's the walk-in closet. Its innards will be wood walls, not drywall. All other walls are done except the window area over where the toilet will be. Some cutting-to-fit is needed there. This picture was taken standing in the door from the Master Bedroom. The shower will be where that stepladder is.

Here's the opposite view, standing by the closet, looking towards the door to the Master Bedroom. Yeah. It's hard to tell what we're admiring here, in such a CLOSE-UP for Hick. The shower goes where that yellow measuring thingy is, and the vanity and sink will be under that switch by the door. Yes, Hick now calls this bathroom drywall BLUEBOARD instead of greenboard! I think he was messing with me that one time. More on the blueboard later...

Here's that doorway again, standing in the Master Bedroom door to the living room, and looking at the Master Bathroom door. It's that area where Hick expanded the bedroom, and lowered the ceiling.

That's the Master Bedroom wall by the door to the living room. Hick needs to pull some wire, and get all the plumbing fittings done before he can completely finish up on that wall adjoining the Master Bathroom.

Since the weather has been sunny and temps in the 50s and 60s, Hick has used the opportunity to drive over to Bill-Paying Town to Lowe's and Menard's, and get his drywall so he can haul it back in SilverRedO without risk of getting it wet.

He pays by credit card, then when the bill comes, I am responsible for transferring funds to pay it, out of the account we used for Pony House renovations. Hick throws the actual receipts on the kitchen counter for me when he remembers, so I can organize them for our records. Wednesday, I mentioned to Hick that I did not yet have the receipt for the drywall.

"Oh. It's in my billfold. I'll put it in there. You know, Lowe's messed up when I bought my drywall. That blueboard is $17-something a sheet. And the drywall is $9-something. They charged me the drywall price for all of it!"

"So you got it cheaper?"

"Yeah. At least $80 cheaper. I didn't know until I unloaded it at the house, and checked my receipt to see if I had everything. I thought about going back to tell them. But I'd already brought it home. So I doubt I do. It's not my fault. If I'd noticed it right there, I'd a-told them. I guess they was only looking at the drywall on top, and not the blueboard about three sheets down."

What do we know about Hick? Somehow, he attracts the bargains...

Hick's Framing Hits a New Low

Hick is still working on the Master Bathroom of Pony House. You may recall that it was down to bare bones. Barer bones! Even the floor joists had to be replaced.

Anyhoo... Hick lowered the ceiling of the Master Bathroom from 9' 4" to 8'. As he says, there's no reason to pay to heat that extra foot of air.

Hick sure likes to show off his wood, heh, heh! Here's a view of the Master Bathroom, taken from the Master Bedroom. You can see the framing for the ceiling. And the new wall that will divide the bedroom from the bathroom. Hick has extended the bedroom about 4 feet, rather than having a giant bathroom.

Here's a view from farther back in the Master Bedroom. You can see where the original bedroom ended, and where Hick put in more floor. The bathroom area was originally several inches lower than the bedroom floor.

The coiled wire corner is where the shower will be. Hick took out the base he had sitting there for measuring purposes. The sink will be in the middle space of the wall, where that board is on the floor. The door from bedroom to bathroom is on the left.

Hick also lowered the ceiling of the bedroom addition. He is leaving the original bedroom ceiling at 9' 4", because the drywall is good. It only needs paint. No need to go to the expense and effort to lower that ceiling. This lowered section will get drywall to match up. It will just have a ceiling that's a foot lower on that end by the bathroom. No big deal. Hick is re-building a safe, livable house. Not the Taj Mahal.

Hick has actually gotten a lot of work done, without much to show for it but new wood.

Hick Makes a Little Progress in the Bathroom

Hick continues his Master Bathroom project at Pony House. He has the walls insulated, and part of what he told me is GREENBOARD up around the jetted bathtub. He has moved the toilet pipe over several inches. Has put down the best layer of plywood floor.

Once Hick sent me the picture, he had some 'splainin' to do.

"You told me you were using GREENBOARD. That looks blue to me."

"Well. They call it blueboard now. But it used to be green. Back when we built our house, it was green."

SURE it was. I can't believe I fell for Hick's shenanigans again. I don't ever recall hearing him talk about GREENBOARD before. But I have heard him mention blueboard. I'm pretty sure in a discussion of Pony House Bathroom 2. At least River in the comments wasn't fooled by Hick's gaslighting a couple days ago!

Hick also has the shower base in place, so he can figure his measurements for its accoutrements, and how it will affect the closet.

Standing where the picture was taken, that's where the door will be to the bathroom, from the Master Bedroom. I'm not sure about that pipe by the shower. Whether it has something to do with the shower, or the sink that will be in that general area. Not sure where the bedroom wall will be, since Hick is making the Master Bedroom a little bigger, using some of the space that was this huge bathroom.

Still a lot of work to do in this Master Bathroom, but Hick is happy to show off his progress. He will be building an enclosure around the tub. And lowering the ceiling in the closet from 12 feet to 10 feet. He wants to get the drywall ceiling up in this bathroom pretty soon, too.

Every day, The Pony asks what progress was made.

Not Quite Ready For a 2-Hour Nightly Soak

Hick had a helper over at Pony House on Monday. They worked on the plumbing in the Master Bathroom. To see where the piping (heh, heh, I'm sure that's not how Hick referred to it) should go, they set The Pony's jetted tub in place.

That's in the back corner of the house, nearest the street and garage side. The pipe is also in place for the toilet, which I think is going to be close to the tub. Hick said he centered it under the window, and that there has to be room for the closet to open, which is just out of sight on the right.

The floor is getting a layer of those wall boards Hick took from Bedroom 2, put on top for some added insulation, then the regular plywood floor, then the same laminate flooring as Bathroom 2. You can catch a peek at the fresh lumber that forms the new floor joists under the Master Bath.

Hick says the tub will come up a few inches as he builds a frame around it. He has waterproof "greenboard" to put behind it. Which he says is made for bathrooms, meant to be waterproof, and not green at all, but white. I'm leaning toward some more of that shiny whiteboard, but Hick says drywall. We'll see how it goes, and what The Pony has to say.

The sink will be at the bottom of the picture, against the wall that abuts the Master Bedroom, where the two red and blue thingies are flopping. I'm guessing they represent cold water and hot water.

Still a lot of work to get done on Pony House, but Hick is making progress.

Pony House: Master Bathroom, the Bones

I'm not sure what the future master bathroom used to be. A third bedroom, perhaps, since Pony House was listed as a 3-bedroom, 1-bath property. Of course, the rooms can be anything Hick wants, because the inside has already been gutted.

If you stood at the back of the living room, at the corner with the master bedroom, you could look into what will become the master bathroom:

The master bathroom is fairly large, but will become smaller as Hick moves the wall into it to expand the master bedroom. These two windows that face the side street will be covered, and this wall we're peeping through will become solid. No entry to the master bath except from the master bedroom.

The triangle-shaped tub fixture, that holds an oval jetted bathtub which The Pony has requested, will go in the corner you can't see. Up against the bedroom wall, and against the side wall of the house. The sink will be against the bedroom wall.

Standing in the area that will be the entry from the master bedroom, you can see the back wall of the master bathroom:

Hick plans to put the toilet near the window area, off to the right. And the shower in the corner to the left. Those boards you see on the right will frame the closet.

This will be the closet, plenty roomy for Pony clothes. Right now you can see through it to the back porch and back door.

This is a view into the master bathroom, looking in from the other side of the closet. I think the master bathroom will be a nice size to fit in all the fixtures, and give The Pony his tub with jets, as well as a shower, and that closet.

Next week, the second bedroom and bathroom. Probably on Tuesday and Wednesday.
