Val Steps, Baby Steps

My mysteriously-injured rumpus/leg's shooting pain is almost completely gone. I haven't noticed even a twinge for a couple days. Sometimes I still get a bit of ankle/foot numbness if I stand in one position for more than a few minutes. But the only pain now is the regular pain in my knees from the bones grinding against each other. Especially when trying to move after standing.

I've been going without my cane. In the Gas Station Chicken Store, Casey's, the T-Hoe gas Casey's, and to the 10Box cart corral. So that's progress.

Thursday was beautiful. Bright and sunny, 74 degrees. A light breeze. It looked so much like fall. While coming out of Country Mart, pushing a cart with groceries for myself and The Pony, I remarked how good it was to be out and about.

"I feel like I could run a marathon today!"

"Oh?"

"Well. If I was pushing a cart, of course. And with different shoes."

Heh, heh! I was just happy to push that cart all the way back to T-Hoe without pain and unsteadiness. In reality, a marathon will have to wait.

  1. I advise very strongly against marathons, soon or in the future! I know some people enjoy all that hot sweaty out of breath kind of exercise, but I'd much rather sit in the shade and not have a face the colour of beetroot while I gulp water.
I am very glad you are almost pain free and managing without the cane, while I am still in the "heat rub twice a day" stage from my recent sprain.

    1. I used to run 10K races in college, mainly for the free t-shirt! Maybe that's why my knees are so complainy now. I really did enjoy it. I ran 5 miles every day, even in winter, with Vaseline on my face, and socks on my hands (better than mittens). Yes, I had a beetroot face, winter AND summer.

I hope your sprain is gradually getting better. Those plant pots aren't going to lift themselves!

  2. I would not run a marathon even if I could. I would ride my bike. Did you sprain something?

    1. It's a mystery! A few weeks ago, I was sitting on the short couch, and barely shifted my position. I felt a specific pain, but thought nothing of it. When I got up about an hour later, I could barely walk!

I think I strained a muscle, which swelled, and then pressed on my sciatic nerve. SEVERE pain, sharp and shooting, and numbness down by my ankle. It has taken many ibuprofen and acetaminophen and missed town trips, plus my cane, but I seem to be over it now.

  3. The plant pots can stay where they are permanently and I'll go back to hand watering them.

    1. That sounds like a good plan. Be careful. Water can be heavy!
