Hick is not so much turning over a new leaf as hanging out a new sign. A sign he KNEW he had somewhere over in his Freight Container Garage, but he just had to find it. Mission accomplished!
That Hick! He's a collector in his own mind. Why he's collection children's VHS tapes, and surfboards, and a fake potted plant, and half a flat woman's face, I'll never know.
Speaking of Hick, he took off at 11:30 on New Year's Eve on a road trip to Casino Town. That did not set well with Val, who does not like Hick to be on the road on holidays or holiday eves, especially with freezing rain and snow in the forecast. Of course Hick did not offer to take me and The Pony along on this trip. He had to go RIGHT THEN!
"I talked to my lady at the pawn shop, and told her I really couldn't make it any day next week except Wednesday. She said I NEED TO COME TODAY! So I'm on my way."
Of course Hick spent time in the casino! He didn't mention it, but only stalled briefly when asked after his return home.
"You wouldn't have liked it today, anyway. BOTH parking lots were full! There was a lot of people in there."
"Um. Yeah. It's NEW YEAR'S EVE! They're having special activities. And some people are probably staying overnight, or have a package deal."
"Yeah. And I think they were having a live band."
"I saw that on their Facebook page."
"So you wouldn't have been happy."
"Did you win anything?"
"No. I lost. I tried to play some round Buffalo game up front, and lost a lot."
"That's Buffalo Diamond. I saw the display they had blocked off last time. It's not new! The Pony and I used to play it at Downstream, in Oklahoma. It's at least 3 years old. But new here."
"Well, it don't pay!"
Heh, heh. And Hick tries to advise ME on how to gamble! He also snuck out earlier this week, and went to the city, Goodwilling, he said, and went to the casino up there! Where he also lost. I guess he'd better keep selling through the winter at his Storage Unit Store, so he can replace his losses!
Here's one thing he might earn a few dollars for:
It's a cat hotel. Or a cat skyscraper. Something ritzy for felines. You can see Jack's butt here. I don't think he tried it out. You can also see the other junk that Hick is "collecting" on the side porch, under the window of Genius's room. I think he might need to build a shed around the house.
Anyhoo... Hick was excited that Backcreek Neighbor Bev gave it to him for FREE. He said he thought it was worth $200. Then he said $100. I think he looked it up and saw that it goes for around $75 new. So he's hoping to get about $40 for it.
Of course, by leaving it there on the porch, it's probably depreciating a couple times a day, when dogs pee on it...
Yes, it will get moisture and be worth very little in a few weeks or less.
ReplyDeleteHick informed me around noon on New Year's Day that he had put the Cat Hotel on Buy/Sell/Trade, and had a buyer within 20 minutes! She offered $50, to pick it up the next day.
DeleteWithin a half hour of that revelation, the lady was contacting Hick to see if she could get it RIGHT THEN. He had come home for lunch, and was meeting Back Creek Bev at 2:00 for an adventure, so stood firm on taking the Cat Hotel to town the next day.
Within another 10 minutes, SOMEONE ELSE wanted it! Anyhoo... the original offerer is getting it, Saturday morning, for $50. Hick is quite proud of himself.
I want that sign. The cat hotel is almost exactly like one of mine, except yours has a couple of layers more. I wasted my money on mine, Lola won't even go out into the back porch, let alone climb onto the 'hotel' or the even bigger one that used to be Angel's.
ReplyDeleteOf course Hick is not selling the sign! I haven't noticed our remaining cat anywhere near the Cat Hotel. Even thought he used to lay in the levels of the stacked drawer thingies that sat in the same place on the porch for a few months.
DeleteSo the casino got another $50?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, unless I haven't forced a confession yet. I would expect it by the end of next week, though!
DeleteCats are finicky. I buy ours toys and he truns uphis nose. If I bought him a cat hotel he'd move to our basement.
ReplyDeleteYes, cats don't hide their emotions. Nor have the good sense to look ashamed when caught in shenanigans. They will haughtily stalk away because you had the nerve to look askance at them!
DeleteI am thinking Martha, the boy cat would stare disdainfully at that contraption. I bet Bo would love it, though. He likes new things to chew .….
ReplyDeleteIt makes ME want to play on it! But our cat eschewed it like a toddler tossing aside the Christmas toy to play with the box. He really liked those drawer/shelf thingies Hick used to have there, though. He was in a different of the three levels every day.
DeleteI'm shocked that Jack and Copper Jack didn't soak it in a pee contest!
