Getting It Over With

As I type, it's the night before my regular doctor appointment. Which is a bit misleading, because it's with a nurse practitioner. I like him just fine. He's an affable fellow. Seems to have my best interests in mind. Never gives me any lip. I just hate going to a doctor appointment every six months. It might even be once a year now. I forget. Is that a bad sign? Now that I don't have two insurances, I suppose it does not behoove him to see me so often. That's fine with me! I only go to keep getting refills on my BP and thyroid prescriptions.

Anyhoo... now the clinic has moved out of their regular offices on the floors above the local hospital, into a new building that Hick thinks is about a block behind the hospital. I hate going new places! Now I'll have to find out where my NP's specific office is located within that building. Supposedly they have their own lab on site. So I'll have to figure out where to go to get my blood drawn.

This appointment has been scheduled for over a month. Not a day has gone by that I didn't have it percolating on the back burner of my mind, dreading it. I've asked Hick to drive by when he's over in Bill-Paying Town at his SUS2.5 (Storage Unit Store 2.5), just so at least HE will know where we're going. Nope. Too much trouble for him to drive a mile out of his way. At least he will be driving me to the appointment, to drop me off at the door.

Hmm... maybe something interesting will happen that I can blog about.

    1. I thought it was going to be. But no... I'll put it here, because I have much more exciting news for tomorrow!

I was called back 15 minutes early. The NP came in quickly after vitals. We had a nice chat. All that was left was a blood draw. Which was a 45 minute wait!!! With a tech so cold that melted butter would have solidified in her mouth! My knees had stiffened up so much while sitting that an old lady with a portable oxygen generator thingy asked, "Oh, can I help you get up?" And the kicker was that I've lost 70 lbs since the last visit, but they recorded it 10 pounds heavier than the number I saw with my own eyes on the digital scale!!!

    3. I wouldn't even know if I hadn't accepted the printout the girl offered after my visit, since I don't go online to read such things in "YourChart." At least it will give me credit for an extra 10 lbs lost on my next appointment!

  2. I never like anything interesting to happen at my doctor appointments. :*)

    1. Something always seems to go wrong. I would much prefer a standard once-over with my prescriptions refilled. A superficial visit. Like Chevy Chase nodding at the Grand Canyon in National Lampoon's Vacation.

  3. This won't do! You lost it. They could at least get it right!

    1. I know! How hard is it to write down a number displayed on the digital read-out? At least it will make me look good next time I go. An extra 10 pounds that I didn't really lose!

  4. Here's where we differ. I would have scoped out the new building and lab for myself as soon as I heard about it. So I don't get lost on the appointment day. I hate getting lost and being late when I'm supposed to be somewhere. my mum was the same, always learning the lay of the land long before she needed it.

    1. You might also differ if you had to drive 45 minutes one-way just to look at the facility. It only took 30 for Hick to get us there, because he takes the highway, which I shun. He's over in that town all the time for his SUS2.5, and I think it was selfish of him not to take a small detour of a mile or two to make sure where it was ahead of time.

  5. I do have to take a 20 minute bus ride and then a shorter one to the suburb I need for an appointment with the specialist who does cataract surgery, and I'll do that tomorrow so I know where to go once she contacts me with an appointment day and time.

    1. I might do it to avoid missing a specialist appointment. But this was just a routine checkup with an NP, and could have been rescheduled. Plus I was relying in Hick, who didn't come through for me.
