Grillin' Is Fillin'

The Pony wanted to have a cookout Sunday, and invited The Veteran to join us. Hick left his SUS2.5 (Storage Unit Store 2.5) at 3:00, and came home to start the grill. I picked up The Pony shortlyl after noon, and we prepared some baked beans and garlic cheese bread. The other items were store-bought this time.

We decided to use our cafeteria-style trays, for the variety of foods. Even that was not enough room for The Pony.

The Pony had some red-skin potato salad, garlic cheese bread, a baked potato with Kerrygold stuck on the wrapper, a salad, baked beans, a pineapple/brown sugar bratwurst, and a sausage patty with cheddar chunks made into it.

We didn't get a photo of the trays of Hick and The Veteran, but mine was captured:

I had some garlic cheese bread, a sausage patty, slaw, red-skin potato salad, and baked beans.

I forgot to take pictures of the desserts, which were also store-bought. It was cinnamon bread, banana nut bread, triple chocolate cake, and a cherry pie Danish.

A good time was had by all, with plenty of leftovers for the week.

  1. As Trinidadians would say, the Pony caught a vaps and wanted a BBQ. Everything looks delicious. You have a long weekend at the end of May, will you all BBQ again?

    1. Hick likes to grill, so probably. I'd enjoy a nice BBQ pork steak, or maybe some hamburgers next time. With potato salad made by me. The garlic cheese bread was a hit, so more of that, too.

  2. Now, I want the garlic bread and the rest. I never heard of red skin potato salad. Red potatoes with skin on in the salad?

    1. The garlic bread is easy. Minced garlic mixed with butter to coat the bread. Then a sprinkle of garlic powder, the shredded mozzarella, a sprinkle of garlic salt. In the oven at 350 or 400 until the cheese melts. It only takes 3-5 minutes to melt.

Yes, that's how the red skin potato salad gets its name, I would assume. I buy it at the store in the deli section. The red skin potatoes have really thin skin. It's a mayo based potato salad, with a garlic taste, served cold. I don't know how to make it. No mustard in this kind.

  3. I like the cafeteria style trays and wish I could find some, though I don't know why I want some. Certainly I don't need any. Your food looks yummy. I haven't been to anyone's BBQ for quite a while. I love the grilling smell that hangs in the air, especially if onions are involved.

    1. We've had these trays so long I can't remember where I got them. Back when HOS (Hick's Oldest Son) and The Veteran were both in elementary school. I like the sections to keep juices from running around a plate. Hick likes them because you can load so much food on them, heh, heh!

I do love the smell while Hick is out on the porch grilling. Sometimes he wraps sliced potatoes and onions in foil, adds some butter and black pepper, and puts it on the grill to cook. I make it in the oven sometimes. Smells delicious.
