That Sure Beats a Little Boy Playing Slots in an Oklahoma Casino

During the ride home from the Cardinals game and casino on Sunday night, I told HOS and his wife about that time on Casinopalooza 2 when I saw a little boy playing slots in an Oklahoma Casino. They got a chuckle out of that. And then HOS's wife told us a story.

"My sister has a little yellow lab puppy. She keeps him in the house, but the other night she went out on the back porch to have a cigarette, and took him out with her. It was around sunset, and as it started getting dark, she didn't bother to get up and turn on the porch light. She had her cell phone and she was texting and looking at Facebook. The puppy was running around playing, and kept getting under her chair. She said, 'He kept rubbing up on my ankles, and knocking into my legs. THREE times, I told him to STOP! To get away! Finally, I said, THAT'S ENOUGH! I looked down to make sure he knew that I meant business.
It was a raccoon.'"

Yeah. That's kind of how life goes around here.

You tell what you think is a great story, and then your stepdaughter-in-law tells one to top it.

  1. See how those kids are, ours do the same thing to us, I bet it wasn't even her raccoon... it is funny though.

    1. She lives WAY out in the country. Says the pot, concerning the kettle's hue.

      It was NOT her raccoon.

  2. Raccoons before dark are often rabid, I think they are nocturnal. I'd have jumped about 6 feet.

    1. I guess you wouldn't consider a raccoon at your ankles as cute as a squirrel on your screen.

Speaking of squirrels...I heard a racket on my kitchen window screen this morning, and was ready to go out and chastise one of the cats. When I looked up, it was a SQUIRREL. It jumped across and scampered along the porch rail before I could yell at it.

  3. I guess your sister doesn't speak "Raccoon?"

    1. She was actually my stepdaughter-in-law, retelling the story her sister told her. I'm pretty sure she doesn't speak raccoon.

This is the gal who gave us PUPPY JACK! I guess we're pretty lucky he turned out to be a canine.

  4. Val--Well, maybe you need to show her how evil a step-mother can be...

    1. No, I'll allow her to top my story every now and then, as long as there's a casino trip involved. At least she didn't spend the whole drive kicking the back of my seat.

  5. Had to giggle at the racoon. I wish my cat was here to annoy me right now.

    1. Yeah, that got me laughing, too. Just shows how involved young people are with their phones these days, I guess.

  6. Vet told us when the raccoons come so close or drag their hind legs, they are rabid. That had to be a fright.

    1. Or she might have taken a picture of the raccoon to put on Facebook!

I agree that it's not normal wildlife behavior.

  7. She is lucky she didn't get bit!! There used to a possum I named Petey living in the barn od HeWho. He would snuggle and share food with the cat the previous owners left here. I doubt he would be so lucky with my Martha, the boy cat.

    1. Possums are too creepy. They come up on the back porch and eat dry dog food out of the pans sometimes. I'd rather have a raccoon at my feet than a rat-tailed possum with its beady eyes.

I can't see Mr. Martha snuggling with a possum. I think you're right.
