Dead of Winter

I made Hick stay home on Sunday, with the deadly wind chills after the 9 inches of snow. He puttered around the house, declaring that he was going to town on Monday. Which was no better weather, other than the snow was over, and the sun came out.

There's SilverRedO, parked on the side street at Bargain House. At least Hick waited until 8:00 to leave home, rather than 6:00. He said the roads were terrible.

The sidewalk for Bargain House's back door is there somewhere! Hick was planning to list Bargain House for sale this week. I persuaded him to wait until the snow has melted. I don't want the listing photos to show the snow. If it's still on the market in the summer, people are going to look at it and right away say, "Oh, something must be wrong with this one if it's been on the market so long." Whereas if the pictures are not proclaiming a certain season, they might ask for a tour, not thinking to look up how long it's been for sale.

On a sad note, Hick found out that Realtor passed away on Sunday evening. I had been worried about her since she called Hick on December 29th and said she would be retiring. Especially since her unfortunate ambulance ride she discussed at our next-to-last last closing. She was a nice lady, about a year older than Hick. She grew up in a rough part of town (according to her stories), and worked hard for what she got. She's the one who listed Pony House. Hick liked the way she did business, and we used her agency ever since.

As Hick said, she was doing what she loved, right up until the last month. He talked to the young guy who worked with her, who said she didn't even tell HIM anything about her health, only that she was retiring to have some time for herself. She will be missed.

  1. Sad to hear about realtor lady. That was quick. Just barely retired. She sounds like she worked hard her whole life. Maybe God knew she was tired and it was time to go. It is always harder when someone passes so suddenly, especially after having recently seen them. I can see why Hick liked her. Ranee

    1. She had a good sense of humor, and was good at giving us buying/selling advice. It seems sudden because she was still so active, but she'd been having a lot of medical appointments last year. I have a feeling she wanted to get her affairs in order, thus the quick retirement.

  2. I am so over the snow here in Toronto. I couldn't get onto my driveway and I live off a major road, not fun. I think you're right to wait until the snow melts and take those pictures and list.

I am so sorry to hear about realtor :( I hope her loved ones can find comfort during this time. She didn't even get to enjoy her retirement - she worked so hard for it all. Sigh!

    1. I hear you! It's been seven days since I got out. Hick says the highways are clear. I don't drive on the highway. Hick says I am forbidden from pulling into The Pony's driveway, because of the snow still on the ground, and the snowbank from road plowing. I probably won't get out until Sunday or Monday now. More single digit nights on the way, 20-degree days, so nothing will be melting.

Realtor has been on my mind since I heard the sad news. I think she was probably happier working than retired. She was very active with her son and daughter and grandkids, according to the obituary. A lot of people will be missing her.

    2. If I didn't have errands to run I would just be taking the bus to work and back :'( I am just praying the snow does not get worse, we have so much winter to go. I am glad Realtor had a lot of love in her life, she seemed nice based on your descriptions and you would not have continued working with her otherwise. I hope they got the chance to say their goodbyes.

    3. At least I don't have to worry about getting to work! I think Realtor knew what lay ahead, and took that time off for family.

  3. As I read about your weather, I wish you could send us some of the snow. Here in S. California the mountains and snow are far away. What is Pony doing? we hadn't heard about him for a while.

  4. Sorry to hear about Realtor. Best to wait for the snow to be gone before listing the house.

    1. Flipping won't be the same without Realtor. Hick said today that there's a big bank of snow in front of Bargain House that might be there for months! I doubt it. Maybe he's stalling for more time.
