I Wonder If There's Something Hick Hasn't Told Me About His Childhood

The other day I noticed that we had a new guest at our table. She stood there for several days before I acknowledged her. It's not like I'm running a restaurant here, padding my gas station chicken/44 oz Diet Coke/scratch-off ticket bankroll with tips. Besides, it's not even like any eating goes on at our kitchen table. We dish it up at the stove, usually at different times. It's not like this is my dad's house, where supper was served every evening at 5:10 p.m., with all family members accounted for, sitting there eating what was put in front of them, or going hungry silently.

"Did you get a new Barbie?"

"Yeah! Look at her! She was a steal! I got her for $29 at the antique store!"

"You already have a Coca Cola Barbie! She's been standing on top of Grandma's piano down in the basement for years!"

"Val. That's Coca Cola PICNIC Barbie! This is a different one. She's a COLLECTOR Barbie."

Okay. I know you're dying to see Hick's very special Barbie. He took her off to the BARn to put with his other Coca Cola swag. For all I know, Coca Cola Picnic Barbie is already over there, too.

There she is, Hick's very special Barbie. I saw her online going for $45 or $50. Not so poor Picnic Barbie. She's a cheap little tart at $5.99 or so on eBay. I don't have her picture from Hick, but here's one.

I wonder if there's something Hick hasn't told me about his childhood...

  1. Val--Yes, his excitement over his Barbies is, uh, well... well, it's interesting.

I know of a couch he can recline on, so he can talk. For about fifty minutes every week.

    1. Hick LOVES to talk. The reclining? Meh...he spends 12 hours a night sleeping except for the 3 days a week he works, so he's not much for hitting the couch. I can imagine he WOULD pay someone to listen to him talk, though.

Hopefully, such an activity would not require new inserts from The Good Feet Store.

    1. Yep! I've gone this long not knowing. No need to rock the boat by spilling the beans.

  3. If he's sticking needles in a Ken doll I'd worry.

    1. Who knows WHAT Hick's doing over there in the BARn! For all I know, he might be sticking needles in the knees of a corncob dressed with scraps of my old sweatpants that I retired.

  4. I'm going to have to do a post on SD's collection (I think Hick will like it).

    1. And I'm sure it will give Hick dreams of treasures he has yet to acquire.

    1. Every Hick-sure (Hick treasure) tells a story, don't it? I'm pretty sure that's what Rod Stewart was thinking about when he wrote that song. The last line, anyway.

    1. If he brings home the Barbie Golden Dream Motorhome, I'm staging an intervention.

  8. I don't have any Barbies, but I do have some Coke collectibles that I will be parting with ...... those who live in tight spaces do not collect. I had an elephant collection that was impressive, but I have either sold most of them or given them to my kids. I had a doll collection and gave them all to my granddaughter, Layla. I am sure that my daughter has since disposed of them, she is not sentimental at all. I commissioned a drawing from the man who drew the Ducks Unlimited pictures. We shared an accountant and my silly husband thought I might want a duck drawing to go on a bare wall in our living room that had 12' ceilings. Jose (the artist) showed me a tiny picture of a herd of elephants walking in water in the jungle. I just told him to use a pencil and draw the elephants with no trees or foliage and a hint of waves of water. The picture is amazing and huge. It is on a wall in my bedroom, but it dwarfs the room. It would never fit in an RV. I am giving it to my youngest daughter because I know she won't just sell it. We paid more for the frame and glass that we paid for the drawing.
I must apologize for being so long winded, must be the drugs! I was just suggesting that Hick might want to take a look at my Coke stuff, I would give him a good deal knowing the items were going to a lover of collections.

    1. Funny you should mention a duck. Hick also collects them. And just last week, he was asking about the EMU egg. In fact, he even looked up your campground to get an idea of where you are. He says it's a couple hours from us. I seriously think he is contemplating coming after that egg.

I'll tell him about the Coke stuff. He has cut back on buying the glasses, because he has so many. At the end of the month, he has another trip to Sweden. I can imagine him wanting to take a road trip after that, sometime before summer, to claim that egg.

Don't worry. I'll tip you off. And if Hick promises to behave, I'll ride along. Of course he will probably choose a time when you're swamped with campers.

    2. I am always here! Like a prisoner strapped to the property. I do make Walmart runs and sometimes I ride into Montgomery on Thursdays for a few grocery items .... it is Senior discount day and I have lived long enough to claim my 5% discount!
