Kitchen Decisions for Lap House

Hick has the rich guy cabinets and the old cast-iron double sink installed at Lap House. Now comes time for decisions about the backsplash and flooring. In fact, it looks like Hick is planning to use flooring for the backsplash. Not that there's anything wrong with that. I think he's done it successfully for another flip. Of course he knew that I'd require pictures to give my input.

"What do you think of this board for back of cabinets? The white board will divide the two."

"Might be too much wood. And grain. A solid would be better."

"Another option."

"No. I still don't like it. Needs no pattern. Just a solid."

"Okay."

Don't get me wrong. It doesn't have to be absolutely solid. Just mainly solid. A small pattern like dots or stars or thin stripes could work, depending on how it looks next to the butcher block. But that's too much to overwhelm Hick with choices!

Anyhoo... here's the sink and counter and cabinets, all installed. As Hick said:

"I think it looks pretty good."

"It looks great. That's why we should make good backsplash and flooring choices."

What do you think for those choices?

  1. I agree with you - solid backsplash! The pattern is too much.

    1. I knew "my people" would come through for me. I'm pretty sure you all have a brain and eyes, and are not just "yes-men" like Hick's Harem and friends who have told him that wood grain looks good.

  2. Too busy with all those patterns, but Hick is a make-it-work kind of guy. I think solids would make it look rich.

    1. It could be a classy country kitchen. Hick says he will explore the options (my words, not his). Now he thinks that silver (or the gold version) of the metallic backsplash he put in Bargain House might work. I think not.

    2. I also think NOT with the shiny, those cabinets and the lovely sink are too classy for that.

    3. I agree. I don't think the metallic shiny would go well with the butcher block counter.

  3. In my opinion, you can never go wrong with subway tile. It also has the advantage of being cheap.

  4. I agree with you, that would be too much wood and having that beside those curtains would be too much brown. It would "dull" the whole kitchen. I don't have any other suggestion though, my mind is "hayfever fried"

    1. Speaking of the curtains, Hick is going to wash them and leave them hanging when we list Lap House. He says, "It's a covering for the windows, so I don't need to buy anything." We both agree that a buyer will replace the curtains with something they prefer. I happen to think those curtains are cute, with the old-timey sink and the butcher block.

    2. They are nice curtains, I like them, but a brown
splashback would be too much brown.

    3. I already vetoed the brown backsplash, no matter how many of "Hick's People" say they like it!
