Butchering the Lap House Kitchen

Hick was back to work Monday at Lap House. I'm not so sure he had helpers this day, because he sent me a text every half hour or so. Meaning he wasn't putting all his energy into bossing people around!

Here's a preliminary look at the kitchen counter:

As Hick noted, this countertop is just set in place. Nothing fastened yet, nothing trimmed. I wasn't sure I would like the butcher block, but now I love it! I think it goes well with the new (lower) cabinets, and the vintage sink.

Hick was thinking about a white laminate floor, but I'm leaning towards a tan or beige. Not a wood grain, but something that looks like tile. That way it won't clash with the butcher block. I'll suggest it to Hick, but you know how he is about bargains. I suspect he will favor the budget, rather than my preferences.

  1. Looking good! Is it selfish that I want you to buy the church and do a spectacular reno?! LOL

    1. It's terrible for a building to sit empty and fall into ruin. The church could become a duplex. It is easy to divide into an upstairs and downstairs unit. There are separate entrances. However... I looked at the inside online. It would take a LOT of work to renovate. There's a half bath on each floor. And a commercial size kitchen on one level. There are still pews and the altar upstairs. Large areas would have to be framed for bedrooms.

    3. I think it could pay off over time, to somebody like Hick who can do a lot of the work without a contractor. Somebody younger, who might use it as a rental unit to generate income over many years.

    1. It may be too much kitchen for this little house!

  3. I love the countertop. The floor would be best in tan. White floors show too much dirt.

    1. I agree about the white. Also, Hick looked up a picture from Bargain House. That floor had a pattern, and was NOT white like he said it was. Such a pattern would NOT work with this butcher block counter.

  4. I love the butcher block!!! A beige floor would be nice but not tan.

    1. In my mind, beige and tan are the same thing. I just know I'd like the floor to be not-white, and plain without a pattern. Something to complement a shade in the butcher block counter.
