Darn That Dang Hick

Hick got home Tuesday evening right after I had swept up my scratcher droppings, and logged out of molottery.com after scanning my tickets. It was not a pleasant experience. I've been in a slump lately, lucky to win $6 or $11. That is horrendous luck for somebody like me, who is generally lucky, and buys tickets every day. Now I am bad-lucky!

Anyhoo... Hick had been working all day at the home of Nick and Bev, our former back-creek neighbors, in a town many miles away, even more rural than Backroads. While he was in town to get more supplies for the electric box he was installing, Hick bought three $5 scratchers. That's what he tossed on the table for me to scratch. Hick doesn't buy lottery for the pleasure of scratching, but to win. Which usually doesn't work out for him. At least I'm getting entertainment out of mine.

Anyhoo... Hick had one winner in his tickets. It was $10. Which of course irked me, in the midst of a losing streak. I got even with him though. Albeit unintentionally. Hick had a lightbulb symbol, which I read to be a 5X winner. Plus he had another number that matched those at the top. I called him to the kitchen to see the prize reveal. We thought he had won $30, since both the prizes were $5. Unfortunately, I looked closer at the ticket, and the lightbulb was only an automatic winner symbol. The 5X symbol was a money bag.

I broke the news to Hick, who was still happy (how dare he!), because as he said, "I spent $15 on tickets, and won $10 of it back. So I can play again."

Meanwhile, I recommended that Hick cash in his own ticket, since he probably doesn't want my bad luck to taint his win.

  2. You're due for a big win! Hick should be happy. A win is a win.

    1. Hick was really happy, since he so seldom wins on scratchers. I AM due for a win. Whether it will be for me, or somebody I buy tickets for remains to be seen...

  3. Sorry to hear your lucky streak isn't so lucky still. I wonder who is getting all your luck these days?

    1. I don't know. Nobody has come forward to say, "Thanks for my million-dollar winner!"
