Prove it, I say!
If The Universe did not conspire against Val, would the following scenario have happened?
Tuesday, we went to our favorite local casino. The menu at the grill where we always have lunch has changed. And not for the better. They have fewer selections. I chose the Fried Chicken Sandwich combo, which The Pony has consumed on a couple of occasions, and declared delicious. I had them leave off their special sauce, which is a bit spicy, according to The Pony. Otherwise, our order was the same. Yet when our sandwiches arrived, there was a glaring discrepancy.
The Pony's sandwich, as evidenced by his blue nail polish, was plump and juicy. While mine was thinner than the shoe leather on a black-and-white-movie's hobo. How fair is THAT?
Here's a picture of my cardboard "plate."
The Pony gave me his pickles, and I gave him my sauce, which they served on the side. He used it for dipping his fries.

At least I got more fries than The Pony! Though that is hardly a consolation for having chicken leather instead of a plump juicy breast filet... And yes, I shared my fries with him.
In a perfect world, or even a FAIR world, Val would get the same chicken portion as The Pony.
There is a picture comparing the Big Mac of the 70s, and the one we have now. Your fried chicken sandwich was fried a bit too long. We noticed the menus changed over time too. Did you find any pennies at the casino?
ReplyDeleteI, too, thought my chicken patty was overdone, but the taste was great. So looks can be deceiving. Although looks can't make up for meat when there is just a flattened portion!
DeleteI did not find any coins at the casino this time.
DeleteI have a theory based on solid evidence--my experience. I was in line where people were serving plates and handing them to the people as we passed by in line. There was a man in front of me and one behind, plus, I was getting a plate for Tommy. The man in front and behind me were served huge portions, as was my friend whose plate I was ordering to his taste. His portions were huge, too. My plate was skimpy, especially for the meat. The bread was a slice which the guy picked out special for me. I was livid. Are they serving women less? Serving fat women less? This has happened all my life, even when I weighed 110 lbs and could outeat a lumberjack and not gain a pound. I don't believe in random acts of underserving women. Am I wrong? AmIright?
ReplyDeleteI don't know. Hick has always been served more than me at the casino grill. But then I thought maybe it's because HE is the one who gives the order-taker a tip. They also bring out the food, and fetch anything we've forgotten or request, so it's not just giving a tip for typing in an order. However... The Pony does not pay, and eats on our dime. So I don't know why the special treatment.
DeleteIn the school cafeteria, one of my colleagues ALWAYS got the worst food on his tray. The gal would scrape chicken nuggets out of the corner of the pan, all crispy and burnt, even when there was a fresh pan sitting by it. Heh, heh. It's like she was SAVING them until he went through the line. He swore it was because he gave her daughter a bad grade.
He is male. Yes, there are many things that go into more and better food for males, even in history. Men got the muscles of animals. Women had to settle for offal and brains. He is probably correct that the child's grade affected the food he received.
DeleteAt least I didn't get served a plate of awful offal! I also think the kid's grade made that guy a target. Some people can be pretty petty.
DeleteBut the world isn't fair and never has been. If it was everyone would have a home and a bit of money in the bank. I think you should let The Pony do your ordering for you, since the sight of him makes the servers want to feed him decent sized chicken pieces.
ReplyDeleteThat's an idea! "I will have nothing, but The Pony would like two lunch combos." Heh, heh. They won't know which one he might give to me, so to please him, both would need to be decent.
