A Good Week at the Auction

Hick had a good auction week. I showed you the picture of his candy dispenser a few days ago. He got that at Monday's auction, where he went to sell some stuff. I have pictures of that stuff to show later. Maybe on Sunday.

Anyhoo... one of the items Hick took along to sell was a "beer sign." That's what he called it. Turns out it was a whiskey sign. Hick has had this for several years, because the time stamp on the picture he sent me was November 2020.

I'm pretty sure that picture was taken over in the BARn. I recognize the bottom of that stool in the foreground. The junk I don't recognize.

Anyhoo... Hick said he wanted to get at least $30 for that sign, or he would bring it back home. They can do that, put a reserve on an item, and not sell if the bidding doesn't go that high.

"I decided to put my sign on the raffle table."

The raffle table is where people selling stuff that night each put one item. People look at the stuff, and if they see something they like, they buy raffle tickets. After the drawing, the winner gets to choose one item from the table. Everyone else gets their stuff back. The seller who put the chosen item there gets the raffle money.

"I made $34 from the raffle when my sign got picked. So it all worked out, and I got four more dollars than I would have taken for it."

Hick also had some luck at Tuesday night's auction. He won $32.50 in the 50-50 drawing. That's where people buy a ticket (as many as they want) for the drawing, and the winner gets 50 percent of the money collected for the drawing.

Hick also got four hats for $4.50. He sent me that text, but no picture of any hats. I guess they were a bargain.

  1. He seems to have the touch doesn't he? Money flowing back and forth and he has fun doing it all.

    1. Hick is very knowledgeable in the field of junk, and his hunches usually pay off. If only he could do that at the casino, and with scratchers...

  2. That Hick can sure turn a trick. Hey now! You know what I mean. And $4.50 for hats? Depends on what kind, but I hear western wear is big these days and Stetsons are going for a hundred.

  3. 4 extra dollars, or 35 seconds on a slot machine.

    1. Hick might stretch that 35 seconds to one extra minute. He's a low-roller.
