Hick, the Prom King

As you know, for the past couple of months, Hick has been busy mining the treasures of his 18 storage units. The latest gems he has uncovered are PROM DRESSES.

Hick said he wasn't quite sure what to do with them. He wanted to donate them. He doesn't really sell clothing in his Storage Unit Store, and he's already given some ladies' clothes to another seller a few units down. He just didn't know how to hook up the prom dresses with girls who needed them.

I told him that the local high schools always have a "sale" of prom dresses as prom season approaches. Where girls can get used prom dresses for around $20. It's kind of like a big swap, if you have a dress to get rid of. Let's face it: a prom dress is usually only worn ONCE by the original owner. It might as well be given new life for another girl's prom.

THEN I reminded Hick of The Other Prom. The one at my old workplace, held the week after the regular prom. It's arranged by the special teachers, and is free, for any student who has an IEP. My teaching buddies will know what that means. It's an individualized education program, for students who have different needs. The Other Prom is held at my old high school, and invites the IEP students of other schools from a wide area of the state. They use the same decorations from the regular prom, and the FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences, otherwise called Home Ec) classes make food for it. Many businesses and organizations donate to the cause.

In the past, The Pony and I have made our separate donations for The Other Prom. It's one of the few instances I've noticed that The Pony exhibited an iota of care for other people. Donations can be monetary, or in material goods, such as soda, water, or snacks, or in services. It's a big deal, with a DJ, and pictures, and the kids who attend love it. I told Hick that the organizers might be interested in those prom dresses.

Hick was happy to donate his dresses. He called school, and when the main organizer didn't call back, I reminded him that we rarely checked our phone messages. Sometimes we didn't even notice that we had one. Usually, the call is patched right through, and you take it. Or you get an email. It just wasn't something on our radar. So I gave him the other organizer's name, and Hick called back, and agreed to take the prom dresses over to the school.

"You know, right, that you can't just walk down the hall and leave them in the classroom? That place is like Fort Knox now. You have to buzz in at the main entrance, and they'll unlock the door, and you won't be allowed past the office."

"I know. She said I could leave them with the secretary."

So he did, this morning. Whether the students at my old school use them, or students from a neighboring school...three girls are going to be mighty lucky to have a special prom dress this year.

This one looks black, but it's more of a dark chocolate color.

I found this one particularly lovely! So sparkly.

And THIS dress is our school color! Not that such a thing is a consideration when buying a free prom dress, of course.

I'm sure the future recipients will look lovely in them, on their special night.

    1. In spite of the stories I put forth, Hick actually IS a nice guy. To others...

  3. I'd like to see what those dresses look like on someone's body.

Would Hick mind modeling them for me?

    1. No. I don't think he'd mind. It's for a charitable contribution, you know.

Be careful what you propose. That is something that could make me a fortune if I sell brain bleach on the counter of my proposed handbasket factory.

  4. That was very generous of Hick! I know three girls are going to be ecstatic (pronounced "estatic" around here).

    1. It's pronounced "happy" around here. Estatic is what you get if you shuffle your feet along the carpet.

  5. I like that sparkly one too. I'm glad they've been donated. I'm curious now about what other treasures Hick will uncover.

    1. Now that Neighbor Tommy doesn't need him, Hick has to find an outlet for his softie-ness.
