Hick Is Still on Uppers

After a three-day sojourn from Bargain House renovations, Hick was back at it on Monday. He and Old Buddy put up the remaining upper cabinets. These are on the wall the kitchen shares with the laundry room that is now part of the back entrance to Bargain House.

Hick says the stove, refrigerator, and microwave will fit under these small upper cabinets. He is keeping that door, and giving it a fresh coat of white paint. I like that idea. It's an unusual door, and more interesting than a plain panel door.

I asked Hick's plans for the backsplash, and he said he thought he'd use flooring, like he did at the Double Hovel flip house(s). He thinks he has some of the gray version left in The Pony's garage, and is going by to check on it. I like the thought of the gray with the white cabinets. Hick says he will probably use a different kind for the floor, so as not to be too matchy.

Hopefully, Hick is now off the uppers. The kitchen is actually going faster than I expected.

  2. I think Hick may be ahead of his game. Have you shown these photos to any of the home decor magazines?

    1. Heh, heh! Hick is not redecorating the Taj Mahal. Any little change he makes in these houses is a striking improvement.

  3. I like that door too and the small upper cabinets look nice, but would be too high for a short person like me. I prefer tile as splashback, but as long as it's waterproof, it really doesn't matter what Hick uses.

    1. The cabinets can be storage for items that are not used everyday. Perhaps Christmas trays or small appliances. Most people have a little stepstool/ladder, or a taller relative or friend who might fetch these things for them.

  4. Like JJ, the term "uppers" caught my attention. I have seen lots of tile on Marketplace lately. Large amounts cheap that someone bought, then changes their mind. Seems like an expensive change of mind to me, but I am nothing if not the queen of cheap! White cabinets always look nice and make the room look bigger.

    1. Hick is the king of cheap. Maybe he can find you a gently-used scepter and crown. He probably already has them for himself, somewhere in the BARn, the Freight Container Garage, or one of his themed sheds on Shackytown Boulevard.
