Thevictorians Who Lunch

Hick met The Pony for lunch on Wednesday. Both had separate business over in Bill-Paying Town. They chose a Chinese buffet. I went there when it first opened, and was not impressed. Of course, that was at least 10 years ago, so there's a chance it might be better now, heh, heh.

Hick does not mind his manners while The Pony is taking pictures! Here he is, forking a piece of fish. That's what everybody chooses at a Chinese buffet, right? Fried fish? Not this ol' Val! I do approve of Hick's choice of pork with mushrooms. The fried rice and General Tso's looks pretty good. I'm not a big shrimp fan. Hick said this was just the peel and eat variety, no special sauce. The crab rangoons look a bit anorexic, and the eggroll nothing special. Still, it was better than my lunch, which was nothing.

The Pony had sweet and sour chicken. Not sure what the chicken with the coating is on that plate with sauces. On the left plate, I spy some black pepper chicken, and perhaps chunks of peanut butter chicken and/or Italian chicken. Same sad rangoons. White rice is fine with me, but NOT the SUSHI! Of course, getting sushi at a Chinese restaurant is not the problem for me, since The Pony also gets it at Country Mart! I'm just not a sushi fan, especially here in our landlocked habitat.

Some things are fixin' to change here for Thevictorians. You take the good, you take the bad, you take them both and there you have... a story for tomorrow.

  1. I love a Chinese buffet! I love sushi too. The last buffet I went to was in Germany, and the sushi looked old, so I skipped it. I hope my cousin comes over from Germany so I can show him a real buffet, LOL.

    1. The Chinese buffet I like has gone downhill over the past couple years, according to The Pony. Then again, the last time The Pony was there was between lunch and supper hours. So maybe that was the issue. Or maybe I almost put them out of business, heh, heh.

My favorites were: cashew chicken, black pepper chicken, pork with mushrooms, beef with broccoli, peanut butter chicken, Italian chicken, chicken on a stick, spring rolls, broccoli salad, crab salad, fried rice, crab rangoon, and a little dessert cookie that was coconut. Hick and the boys also liked to get soft serve AND hand-dipped ice cream, but I was too full. Heh, heh! As you might gather from my list of favorites...

  2. Your list of favourites is impressive, but surely you did not have all of those at one sitting? I usually buy one or two options and have them in takeaway containers to eat at home for two days, but I haven't had any chinese at all since they closed that particular food hall and razed it to the ground for a giant new office building to go up. There is another Chinese place, but I just haven't bothered to go there.

    1. I've had most of them at one sitting, if you count a "sitting" to include a return trip to get a second plate. Also, I don't pile up my favorites like Hick and The Pony, but only take enough for a bite of each one for tasting.

When we get take-out Chinese, which is one option with a side of rice, mine lasts for three days of meals, and Hick finishes his that evening.

  3. A bite of each one sounds far better than piling up the plate.

    1. I can get plenty of what I like when we get carry-out. A buffet is for enjoying the many different options!
