The Grand Opening of the SUS2

This past weekend marked the first full session of business for Hick's SUS2 (Storage Unit Store 2). He says he took in $500-$600. Not bad considering he can't sell his very special inventory until a certain license is approved for a location change.

This new unit is a stand-alone unit. I know there are several around him, but I don't think ALL the units at this facility are this kind.

Yes. Hick wrote on that sign himself. You can see that he has protective bars in the window, even though there's a garage-type door that closes and locks when he's not open. His security cameras are in place. He painted the entry door, although it almost fooled me into thinking it was new.

Just like an upscale department store, heh, heh! Hick has a place for everything, and everything in its place.

Here's the counter area in front of the window. You can see on the back wall that Hick did not forget his head when he moved.

Hick's customers include many outdoorsmen. Gotta have stuff that interests them. Not as much room here to cater to their wives. Hick's old Storage Unit Store was two units together, with the middle wall taken down. This is just a single.

Those shooty things are of the BB and pellet variety. All that Hick can sell until his license transfer is approved. Could take 4-6 weeks. But it's almost winter now anyway, the slow season for flea markets.

Hick said his sales this weekend were mainly ammo (deer season is coming soon), knives, fishing stuff, assorted metal signs, and Cardinals memorabilia. One lady went outside and called her sister, telling her, "You have to get over here and see all the stuff he's got!" Not sure what items piqued her interest.

Hick also said the lady next door came over to look around, and complimented him on his unit looking like "a real store." He hasn't had time to look around at others, or make new friends. They get a later start at this flea market. Usually 9:00 or later, whereas the old one had sellers showing up at 7:00.

I think Hick is going to like it there.

  1. Hick is a pro, and SUS2 is very organized. He is making aname for himself.

    1. Hick's regulars know where he's moved, and I think he'll cultivate another crop of regulars from this location. Especially once spring rolls around, and the outdoorsmen are itching to get outdoors.

  2. It's all neat and tidy, clean glass on the cabinets, but where is the overflow from the bigger SUS1? Stashed somewhere in Shacky Town? The bars on the window are a good idea, that window is big enough for someone to crawl through if they were intent on theft. Perhaps one day he can get another unit there and bring all the things that would sell to the wives.

    1. The overflow is still in SUS1. Which is paid up until February, I think. Hick didn't want to relinquish his location in case the flea market might return.

He had already paid for 6 months when renters got word of the flea market's imminent demise. So Hick didn't ask for a refund. He has time to figure out what he's going to do with his other wares. He might sell a bunch of it as a package deal, just to get rid of it. He can advertise it on BuySellTrade and then meet someone there for a transaction.

  3. Hick is a good merchandiser! That is high praise from me. I love to set up stores. My Dad was geat at using space well, too. I wish him great success. Smart to keep that other unit until he knows what he wants to do.

    1. Hick is either smart, or a procrastinator! He moved a few more things today. Including a safe, which needed help from The Veteran, and a trailer borrowed from Back-Creek Neighbor Bev.
