You've seen the kitchen counter and sink and cabinets. Here's two more walls of the kitchen.
Hick and HOS covered up the old flue. By now, they've probably finished the top section, too. Hick is planning to use sheets of paneling over the bottom half of these walls, and paint the top. That's HOS's job. He's using a green paint that I assume goes with the countertop. Hick says it looks good, anyway. More pictures of that as I get them. Hick says he has a built-in table to build by this flue.
This corner is where Hick plans to put the stove and refrigerator. He wants the fridge in the corner, then the stove to the left. HOS wants stove in the corner, then the fridge to the left. Actually, HOS wants the fridge in the back porch pantry. Don't know who's winning this one, but I'm guessing it will be Hick. At least as far as keeping the fridge in the kitchen. This corner is where the dirty old sink was removed.
You can see across the hall to the bathroom, which has been enclosed with drywall. Still some to do on the inside of the bathroom.
The framing is ready for the drywall at the end of the shower. Looks like a little box for hooking up water (?) for the washer later.
In a couple days, I'll reveal the master bedroom. Be afraid. Be very afraid!
It's coming along, step by step.
ReplyDeleteConsidering that we've only had Hick House for three weeks, I'd say the progress is "breathtaking."
DeleteMy fear will join my amazement!
ReplyDeleteIt will indeed be frightening, but a plan is in place.
DeleteA stove bordered by a wall on one side and a fridge on the other, will not be comfortable to use. I hope Hick gets his way on that one. It's all coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteThere's a chance that HOS will get HIS way, and the fridge will end up in the adjacent pantry.
DeleteI'm thinking Hick will win. He seems to know his stuff and that little house is going to make a nice home.
ReplyDeleteThere will be time to simmer that decision on the back burner, while progress continues on cosmetic issues and other rooms. I imagine moving in the fridge and stove will be near the end of the project.
DeleteTell Hick to make sure the fridge door can be opened all the way, in order to be able to remove the drawers from the fridge and clean them. I speak from experience. Like if someone should spill an entire 2 liter bottle of Diet Coke in the fridge. It will settle in the bottom and be impossible to get to if you can't remove the drawers. Then the person responsible for the mess will have to move the fridge so his wife can clean up his mess and he can't say a word about it, since she warned him about putting the fridge in tight quarters to start with and he told her to "just be careful" so she would never have the need to remove the drawers. And then HE is the one to create the mess. Just food for thought.
ReplyDeleteI'll remind Hick. He was experimenting with our own FRIG II, and said, "You can reach in plenty good with the doors straight out. They don't have to bend back. I can reach in there fine."
DeleteLet the record show that not one thought of CLEANING the fridge flickered through his sweaty big head.
Yes Yes Yes!!! My daughter's fridge is up against a wall so the door opens almost all the way but not quite and getting the crisper bin out is hard enough, but the shelves are impossible. I just remove contents and wipe up spills if I notice any while I'm there. mostly it's beetroot juice, but once a carton of "off" cream was forgotten in a back corner and exploded in there. We had to move an upright freezer and two cabinets to get that fridge to where we could properly scrub it out.
DeleteI have room to open FRIG II's doors far enough, but they always swing back on me while my head and torso are inside!
