A Bargain's a Bargain For the Rest of Your Life, But Her Eyes Glaze Over When You Brag to Your Wife

With Hick's favorite auction having been shut down for quite some time now, due to divorce and subsequent battle for custody of "little auction," his go-to venue for junk is Goodwill. Yes, Hick also shops for his clothing there. But mainly, he goes to look for treasures. He went last night, in fact. And I heard about it this morning.

"This has never happened to me before. But I was in Goodwill last night, with about 20 minutes left 'til closing, and the lady came out of the back room and said, 'NEW CART!' I went over to see what she had, and there was a bunch of MASON JARS! I got blah blah blah blah blah blah..."

Yeah. I was kind of listening. Whoop-ti-freakin'-do. Hick bought some Mason jars at Goodwill. This afternoon, I guess he was still talking. He sent me a picture of his haul.

Looks like he treated himself to a cake plate lid and some tins as well. But focusing on the jar haul, he said, "One of my best finds at Goodwill 6 jars about $40.00 worth for $12.00."

I'm sure he would be crushed to hear that he might have talked the price down even more. Hick even negotiates with furniture salesmen in the middle of the showroom floor. I don't see any reason to tell him. For a while, anyway.

  1. Will there be a "house of mason jars" being built soon?

    1. I think it's time for the Mayor of Shackytown to require an approved building permit for any future construction. Approved by the residents of the nearest municipality, which is Homesteadburg, population 3. I'm pretty sure I can control The Pony's vote.

  2. Ha! I believe the price of everything is negotiable. When our son needed orthodonture I talked the dentist down $1500 by offering to pay cash.

    1. I'm guessing there was no income declared on that payment.

    2. One hand washes the other, and backs are mutually scratched, even at the dentist's office...

Hopefully, the latter before the former.

  3. Those are really cool jars. However, I think you should tell him now. If he negotiates, that means more time at the thrift store, which means more time you have without Hick.

    Think about it.

    1. Yes. Even though his ego might suffer a blow, he MIGHT just run down there to Goodwill immediately, to try his negotiation tactics.

    1. You've gotta get up pret-ty early the night before the morning if you want to beat Kathy to a comment.

  5. I'm thinking he's not thinking you're going to start canning. He might be considering filling those with moonshine.

    1. Let the record show that Hick does not MAKE moonshine. He has, however, brought it back from business trips to North Carolina. In a Mountain Dew bottle. ON A PLANE. A Mountain Dew bottle that he then put in the original Frig, when the boys were of an age that they could reach the top shelf, and had a hankerin' for Mountain Dew...
