You may recall that The Pony now has his driver's license. Has had it
since Christmas time, in fact. And has now driven to school 4-5 times
alone, gone to bill-paying town to eat at Steak 'n' Shake with his
fellow inventors group twice, and has made a couple of trips to Walmart. Not
exactly a seasoned driver, but making progress.
On the
way home from the weekly shopping last Sunday, I called attention to new
white lines painted on the sides of our county lettered highway.
"Look!
They've painted the lines! Now I can stay on the road in the rain. And
at night. They must have just done that. I didn't notice it until now.
Look there! Somebody got off on the edge and smeared it when it was wet!
Right here at the turn off to get to the the bowling alley and
roundabout."
"Uh huh. I noticed that yesterday when
I came to town. I saw it when I was getting ready to turn. That's
funny. It wasn't smeared when I was going to Walmart. But it was when I
came home."
"Huh."
Silence.
"Are you the one who smeared it?"
"No."
"That
you know of. Funny how you saw the new lines. Made your turn. And
discovered they had been driven over and smeared toward the turn on your
way back."
"Silence! I didn't do it. At least I don't THINK I did..."
We'll never know for sure, will we?
Probably some interloper, could not be the Pony.

ReplyDeleteMaybe not. But the OTHER baby most likely is, after sleep-driving into a semi truck. Hasn't gone to trial yet. Lawyer says he can probably plea bargain.

Uh huh. And I don't think much CHOOSING goes on in those other kind of marks.
DeleteWhoever painted those lines should have put down signs to keep drivers away so there wouldn't be any smearing.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure it's just a dump truck with an attachment on the back with a guy riding backwards and controlling the sprayer.
DeleteThe crews work Mon-Sat, 12-hour shifts, according to the MoDOT website. They advise you to stay behind the last truck in the 8 mph convoy to allow the time needed for the paint to dry. I'm guessing our crew had a short convoy.
This is Missouri. We don't put down signs. Folks would steal them to sell for metal scrap. Even in front of the prison.
