Sunday, we had another grilling of Hick. He's quite a good BBQer. The menu this time was pork steaks and bratwurst. REAL bratwurst, courtesy of the Save A Lot butcher department. None of that brand name pre-packaged stuff.
Hick chose a pork steak, with sides of Stove Top Stuffing (a favorite of The Pony), and baked beans with onions and hot dogs. That was a request from Hick. I normally bake the beans with diced onion, but Hick wanted hot dogs included this time.
The Pony chose bratwursts. Don't get me started on the KETCHUP, but I can understand the mayo. Also the Stove Top Stuffing, and a new addition, the baked beans. Normally The Pony does not choose the baked beans.
The Pony also enjoyed a baked potato and salad and Sister Schubert's Rolls. I had to take that picture twice, because The Pony chastised me for missing the peace sign.
I chose a bratwurst, saving my pork steak for another day. There are baked beans and SLAW, too. I don't have any phobia about food touching. I just like my sides in a ramekin, for portion control. No need for condiments on my brat, since slaw is a good accoutrement.
Of course I had a salad. Not because I think it's healthy, with all my blue cheese dressing and crispy onions. Just because I LIKE salad.
The Pony went home with some cheesecake and cookies for dessert, along with the rest of the Stove Top, and four bratwursts with buns. Hick and I will be having BBQ pork steaks, and some bratwursts, over the next few days, with those baked beans.
Oh my gosh, what a celebration of food. It sure looks good!
ReplyDeleteThe leftovers are just as good as the original!
DeleteThat all looks delicious though I think some of the servings look like too much for a human to consume at one sitting. But who am I to talk.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's necessary to let us know every time I post a food picture that we are pigs at the trough. Though The Pony is a pig that walks 11 miles a day on the job, and actually had rolls, potato, salad, and half a bratwurst left over.
DeleteI don't like pork, but Hick's steak looks good. It's hard to see your salad under all the dressing and crispy onions, but I spied a bit of lettuce around the edges. I understand The Pnoy's ketchup, but not the mayo. I'd be putting mustard with the ketchup, just like I used to do with hotdogs.
ReplyDeleteI remember putting cut up hot dogs in baked beans for the kids and calling it Cowboy Food. When they were adults with kids of their own three of them finally told me they hadn't liked it.
I have issues with the ketchup. The mayo is fine. Mustard would be as bad as ketchup. What's good on a hot dog is different from what's good on a brat to me, because the only thing I find similar is their shape, and not their taste.
DeleteThe beans are usually just baked with diced onion, BBQ sauce, a sprinkle of Worcestershire, and a squirt of yellow mustard. Sometimes I'll put in some bacon. Hick likes the hot dogs, and asked for them in the beans.
I assure you that is a bowl of iceberg lettuce with dressing and crispy onions on top, and not a bowl of dressing and crispy onions with a few lettuce particles planted around the sides, heh, heh!
I don't care for ketchup either, even on hamburgers. why? I don't know. FFries are the same. Using ranch dressing is fine. I'd say you had some great food there.
ReplyDeleteI think ketchup is okay on burgers, and of course on fries. But not on hot dogs or bratwursts. Ranch is good on pizza crust! The food was delicious. We will grill again!
